It's clear they have experience with unreliable narrators. Otori is filled with characters we know, acting "out of character". And there's a reason for Nadeko portraying them that way. Like the first scene where Araragi says to Nadeko "I've come to kill you", or his behavior when talking to her in his room - the whole "the bed is big enough for the two of us". The amount of self-deception and twisting of reality that Nadeko employs is second only to Araragi's narrative.

What the, the part in the discussion where you mentioned that shinobu wasn't even there when araragi was trying to get the talisman, and that she made that up cuz she needed someone to provoke her so that she can eat the talisman and become God is honestly one of the coolest theory crafting I've heard on this series.
Also love how excited you guys are, actually sent me to a flashback to when I first watched this series with a friend. Just a dude watching a series having no idea that by the end of it, it became his no.1 anime of all time.

Great discussion, naturally there’s so much to unpack with this one haha.
Otorimonogatari is just so peak. Contender for the best arc in Second Season imo (which is saying a lot cause Second Season is amazing).
Such amazing writing and character work as per usual with this series but… damn. Nadekos character is just wild.
As for watch order, I’d recommend Hanamonogatari next, followed by Onimonogatari (Shinobu Time) to stay somewhat consistent with the LN release order. Honestly don’t blame you guys for accidentally skipping over Hana, watch order is confusing for this show.
Some are suggesting to watch Hana after Koimonogatari which I personally think would be a little weird. I will always vouch for the LN release order.
Ultimately it’s up to you guys though!

They'll watch Hana after koi since they are following the Crunchyroll order. That being said they are aware that there is some shenaningans happening with the order there so they might watch Hana sometime before koi? or something? but I don't really think they will change that at this point.

Otorimonogatari might have given us pound-for-pound the best discussions of any of the entries up to now. It's peak...

"My, I'd imagine that a snake wouldn't be considered with hands" — honestly, this is such a great translation. In Japanese, Senjougahara’s line is basically just quoting a proverb: “That’s quite a snake half-killed.” The meaning of the proverb is something like leaving things unresolved or half-done. It’s also a warning: if you don’t finish it off, the snake is stubborn and might still bite you with its poisonous fangs. But in this scene, it’s not really about that deeper meaning or metaphor—it’s just said as a joke. That’s why I think this translation is spot on.

I really enjoyed the discussion! Sengoku's disturbingly yet relatable (on a smaller scale) ability to delude herself, speculation on Ougi's nature and motives, Senjougahara's growth/her being a cheeky badass in the face of a god, and theories/analysis about the trailer were all such treats to listen to.
The anxiety and uncomfortable feelings that grew as you both learned the extent to just how much Sengoku deluded herself and how easy it was for her were palpable. It goes to show just how well you understand her character. Touching on your discussion about wondering when NisiOisiN may have envisioned this path for her character, if you go back to Bakemonogatari, Kanbaru alludes to Sengoku as "the final boss" whilst speaking to Araragi :p.
The bewildering fascination with Ougi's character and intent made me smile. All I'll say is good luck trying to keep Ougi "on the shelf" moving forwards.
The Senjougahara line about how she didn't expect a snake to be concerned with holding hands was indeed amazing. Ben pointing out the emphasis of her holding hands with Araragi in the trailer was a cool detail I never noticed!
Regarding the trailer, I'm excited for you guys to get an answer to who you expect to get the most face to face time with Sengoku will be. Since you guys ended up watching Otorimonogatari before Hanamonogatari, are you watching Onimonogatari next? The LN order is Hana-> Otori-> Oni->Koimonogatari. I don't really have a strong preference, just curious. At this point it may make sense to watch Hana after Koi, although part of that suggestion stems from me knowing how much you both are going to absolutely adore Koimonogatari haha.

Lol btw Kanbaru foreshadowed the final boss ages ago
