For reference on the Angel sharing 99.8% of genetic data with humans, that is about the same as between us and our extinct fellow humans, the Neanderthals. We share 98.8% of our genetics with our closest living relatives, chimpanzees and bonobos, and 98% with pigs.

A detail: Rey was one of the most beloved characters in NGE. To the point that some people attribute the origin of the kuudere character (detached / cold / indifferent beauties, almost autistic; see Yuki Nagato in The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya) to her character.

I wonder what you guys think about Rey's reaction to the pervy accident with her underwear and Shinji ending up on top of her. In the movie theater, it clearly seemed that Shinji was interested in sex and romance; but Rey's cold reaction suggests she has no such feelings (or at least represses them). The scene is to me not just a subversion of the pervy accident trope, but also a little window into Rey's mind. I mean, look at where she lives -- with that constant hammering noise that would make it impossible (for me at least) to fall asleep! All of this shows her as very detached from feelings and even from reality. But then there is her attachment to Gendō... If she's really that indifferent to everything, then why is that the case? To the point that her slap defending Gendō was the only moment when her face showed any emotion (anger, in this case)...

I love how NGE does have moments of raunchy humour, but when it comes to the obvious low-hanging fruit that so many anime reach for - a male MC accidentally walks in on/bumps into/lands on top of a naked girl, cue female screams and a slap, cut to the male MC apologising with a red cheek - it gets turned into an uncomfortable interaction that purposefully overstays its welcome and leaves you almost embarrassed about having expectations. She doesn't hit him, she's not mad, she doesn't care in the slightest. Until Shinji badmouths his father - that's when he gets slapped. It's such a brilliant subversion of the trope and still stands the test of time even now.

Yes, Neon Genesis Evangelion has fan service, but it feels really awkward most of the time.😅
