The time and differences in appearance are factors, of course, as people have noted. I would also say that there is a good deal of power in the element of surprise even off the battlefield. Rudy doesn't expect to run into Sylphie and so, he's not looking to prove to himself that she is who she is. The biggest thing here is the wand, frankly. It had serious potential to get Rudy thinking about Sylphie and where his all-too-familiar wand had got to. Seems he decided the resemblance was merely a passing one...

If Jenius is in his 60s and Roxy attended the university in her late teens or early twenties, it would be just about the right timing. He might very well know Roxy better than Rudy does. Hence, his apparent familiarity when he's talking about her.

Even if thats not the case in this world, Ariel had to flee and likely doesnt really have any servants other than Fitz and Luke. Seems pretty reasonable that one of her two loyal servants would be doing her chores for her and it makes sense the school would make an exception to any gender rules for a royal, even one that is currently on the run. Plus, Asuran nobles seem to be pretty kinky and If I didnt read the implications in Ep 0 wrong, Ariel gets up to an awful lot of sexual shenanigans. And the age isnt that big a deal since I am pretty sure Sylphie is 15 or 16 now and Ariel and Luke are likely a bit older than her, and 15 is adult in this world. This school is essentially a college, and I know there was a ton of "being in the wrong dorms" at my school even though it was technically against the rules.

We were just brought to the school without seeing Sylphie for multiple volumes and we didn't get the episode 0 backstory. And the visual wasn't there so the connection really only came with the incantationless casting and when Rudy was with counter arrow it was mentioned that there are others who can do that in this world its just rare.

2023-08-08 00:03:02 +0000 UTCkeep in mind it's been 8 long years and he imagined she'd grow up to be a long-haired beauty. her hair color is completely different, he can't see her eyes and she's presenting as a boy (she even uses "boku" pronoun). the only reason to think so is because it's another elf that can do chantless magic, but he thinks it makes sense for a royal bodyguard to be skilled like that. the better question to ask is: why is she hiding her true identity?
