I don't think they mentioned it in the show, but Cyberpsychosis is somewhat the loss of humanity. Chroming up speeds it up, because you end up not being human at all anymore. The way I see it, is that David was just more capable of holding on to his humanity. This is likely because of his newly found family. Kinda kept him sane. But losing people left and right and getting used to killing chips away at his humanity, which is why he is starting to show symptoms. The irony is that Lucy stayed away from the gang to protect David from the sidelines, but she didn't realize her not being there supporting him, probably contributed to his psychosis.
