Comments

I hope they atleast read the comments on patreon cuz many try to solve their doubts without being spoilery about it.

Child of the forest

I love that thumbnail!

This is super helpful! Idk if they read comments tho. I think they touch on that next episode, when Grisha says something like "Let me explain what's the ocean".

Yes please rewatch the season 2 outro

Would recommend you guys watching the ending song of season 2 once more now. There have been hints about this episode there as well. Also, whatever gross was saying about cruelty, notice how he was breaking the fourth wall. Basically telling us that humans like cruelty and that's also the reason many people(not everyone) watch AoT. Regarding the info being from books or memories, it's actually both. Notice how grisha is the one narrating. So after reading the books eren's memories might have been triggered cuz otherwise it's usually triggered when he is touched by royal blood. Also notice that whenever it's ONLY someone's memories, it's from a first person view of the person whose memories are being shown. Like in S3e6, when eren saw he ate his father, it was all from grisha's POV. So eren waking up from the dream was due to the jumpscare of Dina turning into the smiling titan and notice how that scene of Dina turning and smiling while looking upwards was from grisha's POV too. So yeah it's basically the books that triggered eren's memories so the writer basically told us that eren unlocked some similar memories after reading those books. Whenever grisha narrates, it's the book they're reading. Sorry for the long comment but I like how much you guys care about this show and try to go in depth so just helping out.

Child of the forest

you can find the kawaii titan at season 1, in 2 places. at episode 5 the titan ate mina carolina (the 2 pigtails girl from the trainee's who got eaten in episode 5) and once again while the trainee's unite to take over to basement room of military building that got the gas supply (8 elite trainees was supposed ot kill a titan each, sasha and connee missed their titan. sasha missed the kawaii titan and annie end its life)

amir.cricket

Man, it's been a while since I saw this episode, and I forgot that it's quite this CRAMMED with information. It's quite impressively paced as an episode considering, although I still wonder if maybe they should have distributed more of the exposition between the previous episode, the next episode and the last episode of the season... I'll be interested to see what you think once you get to the end!

Asteroidea

The next episode is gonna be insane, tell me please its coming tomorrow

"Because it's interesting. People actually want to see cruelty. Peace is great, but something about it is lacking." He says, looking directly into the camera, at you, the viewer, watching Attack on Titan, a show where suffering is constant and people die for your entertainment. Obviously it's not the same, watching a fictional show versus causing actual suffering to watch, but it's true that people find it interesting.

Jo

another excellent discussion. Really enjoyed Ben's insight about the choice to reveal Grisha's story via his memories directly rather than his writing and how it reminds him of his own adoption story.

Aidan

Notice that the title of the episode “That Day” was used once before in the show too 😉 (although yes the Japanese is slightly different)

Katie Barnes

Auto Save-sama Thank you very much for the subtitles. I'm happy!

This is the episode that changed AOT. This is the episode that divided this show into one that happens before 3x20 and another that happens after 3x20. I personally think this is where the show elevates itself to what its always been about. This is what AOT was always building towards. The history of the struggle between eldians and others is very interesting, especially since it isn't clear. We have the marleyan account about eldians being brutal monsters to the world and the eldian version where they helped everyone prosper. Which one sounds more likely to be true? Which one is closer to the truth? After Grisha declares the eldians were good he admits he can't actually translate almost any of the text he was basing his opinions off, and declared it was the truth because its what he wanted to believe. Very reflective of the real world where people's own versions of the truth vary significantly by perspective. Is one side lying, or are they both lying? Or are both versions true and just one half of the overall picture? The Sargent giving his speech about wanting to witness violence while he almost breaks the fourth wall, talking to the audience and telling them why they watch this show, it's so well done. I would definitely suggest watching this episode at least twice before moving on, there's just so much information and nuance to pick up on a single viewing.

To answer your question: The 3-4m "Peering" titan ate Mina Carolina, one of the new recruits in Eren's squad, at the beginning of the battle of Trost. Just before Eren got eaten. It was also killed by Mikasa (after Sasha missed) during that ambush inside the supply depot.

Hollow

Hey guys, are you planning on reacting to the rest of the OVAs at some point? I think at this point they're all spoiler-free.

Eugene

Totally worth the wait! Best AOT discussion ever!!!

Something the anime doesn't make as clear as the manga does at this point--not a spoiler, just a note. When Grisha's father shows him the map, the anime uses the moment to give the audience a sense of scale; first he points out the island with three walls, where our entire story has taken place up to now, then he points to their own continent, combined with a camera zoom-out to drive home just how much larger the rest of the world is. On the static image of the manga in this scene, we get a fuller picture of the map, seeing recognizable shorelines from our own world. Attack on Titan's world map is our own, mirrored upside down; there's even a side story that remarks about the sun rising in the west. The scale is different (i.e., larger), but Paradis Island is to Marley what Madagascar is to Africa.

JupiterCobalt

I love that the speech given by that Marley soldier about people wanting to see cruelty is made with him looking dead center to the camera, to the audience.

Lucas Barros

That Titan was from season 1 episodes 5 and 8. He ate Mina Carolina in episode 5 and almost ate Sasha in episode 8.

Mecha Saiyan

those titans are all the titans that eren and his comrades fought in trost in season 1

Sean Carroll

yes, he grabbed her wiring and then looked down at her when she fell to the ground

Sean Carroll

i think you guys got confused on the kings threats, he said he would send the millions of titans "in the walls" to destroy the world, not turning all the people into titans and sending them to destroy the world

Sean Carroll

Also, now you're here. Go back and look real hard at the image that has been used for the episode number slate background graphic since the very first ep - and the one for the preview slate too, though I reckon you will have barely seen that in order to avoid the actual previews. This show...

Brendan Falvy

I believe that big eye titan was the one who killed Mina in season1 episode 5, when the Colossal titan broke Wall Rose.

Jacob Park

As a Taiwanese fan, I need the subtitles, too!

Yinki

also Zeke was 7 years old this episode but is actually 25 now so that also confirms that Grisha arrived on Paradis 18 years ago

Sean Carroll

Marley have been pushing eldians off the walls for the last 100 years give or take since the eldians mvoed into the walls. Ymir was pushed about 65 years ago 60+5. Grisha was found by Keith approx 20 years ago outside the wall so Grisha is much younger then ymir technically

Sean Carroll

Episode 19 was really just the show taking a BIIIIG breath before it pummelled you with all the things hahaha

Brendan Falvy

I have a request. I would like to have subtitles. please

Yeees! Been waiting for this!
