DS PS

Alright everyone, the start of Dark Souls on the PlayStation, not replacing the other video but thought I would just film this anyway for anyone interested in watching! No camera, just mic, did it during my lunch break, it was a very quick recording haha. Eagle eyed viewers please let me know if you spot anything I missed or any major differences I need to let people know about for when I film part 2! Also let me know which version you preferred too :) Thaaanks!

This isn't true. It's endurance that allows you to wear heavier gear.

Adam

strength is the stat you should level if you want to wear heavier armor without the penalties

i actually never realized the demon downstairs was different from the one you fight. i've never played this, so i have no idea if you do end up getting to fight that one too. i imagine so but ¯\_o_/¯

I agree that you seem more relaxed without the facecam, but it would be a shame to not *see* your reactions; especially to a game so full of surprises like Dark Souls. I'd definitely be down for voice-only playthroughs for something like OoT where you're mostly telling nostalgic stories and not really "experiencing" anything.

Flukemarm

Amber, are you sure you’re not a pro Dark Souls player? ‘Cause you’re playing like a pro Dark Souls player 🧡 I liked the un-editedness, it gives the video a “playing with friends and eating snacks” feel :)

Huib Gelling

If I'm honest, I think I preferred the unedited/cameraless gameplay. I can't really explain why, I do enjoy seeing how you react but maybe it's a little bit more immersive/comfy? It could be because it's unedited too, or there's more emphasis on your voice? Or that you feel more relaxed? In any case, I really enjoyed it. The chest that you haven't gotten can be reached, maybe talk to the Undead Merchant again. And as far as I can tell, you got everything from your original playthrough. Also if you need help leveling up; a good approach is to meet the minimum requirements for the weapon/spell/miracle you want to use, then put points in Vitality/Endurance. With an extra consideration being Attunement to add more spell/miracle/pyromancy slots. If you look at the details of your weapons you will see a number that represents the minimum required stats to hold the weapon (in 1 hand), and you might also see a letter that represents the scaling of that statistic. So if you find a weapon you particularly like, and it has an A ranking in Dexterity, it might be worth considering putting some additional points in Dexterity to do more damage. But most of your damage (especially early) is going to be coming from upgrading weapons.

Adam

In answer to some of the questions you raised in the video: https://darksouls.fandom.com/wiki/Rolling This link will help explain rolling. There's actually four different 'fast rolls' and three different 'medium rolls'. Think of the pyromancy flame as a weapon that is upgradable, like your axe. Only certain people can upgrade it though, and I believe it just costs souls, not materials and souls like a normal weapon would. And you will find more pyromancy spells. The guy that you bought your heater shield from sells some stuff you absolutely want to get at some point. Like the box that lets you change equipment at bonfires or the ability to repair equipment at bonfires. As far as stats go, if you're not doing any magic besides pyromancy, then really the only stats you need to think about are strength and dex. You were right, you can't go wrong with vitality and endurance, so they are a given. Strength and dex, you could just flip a coin or wait until you find a weapon you like. The axe you're using right now has better strength than dex scaling, if that helps. Increasing dex does affect casting speed on damage spells, but only after it gets to 35. If you want, you can always pump both strength and dex, so you can use most weapons you come across. 'Quality builds' are great in DS1. Point is, there's no wrong answers, but I get it, for someone that hates committing to decisions like this, I'm one, it's not much help. I do know I like to try to switch things up, so maybe keep in mind if you're going say pyro/strength in DS1 now, maybe in DS3 or Demon's Souls you can try something different. That helped me decide on a build. Yeah, the game looks way better in comparison, happy for the switch to PS. Considering how much you like your parries and backstabs I think when you get to DS3, you'll be an experienced soulsborne player by that point, you should just go full send and play a thief class and embrace it. Or just play Sekiro as that is basically all of its combat. Yes, it's as amazing as it sounds. DS2 is the one game I haven't played, but I hear backstabs are very finicky in that one. If you started a game series that was all like this, just raw no editing or face cam, I'd be totally cool with that. It's a bit weird to say, I like your face but if it means giving you more time for other things, losing the face cam wouldn't be the end of the world.

This was super fun! Thanks for sharing this! It didn't look dark at all and definitely looked better than the switch. I played on the switch myself and may have to replay on the ps5 as it looks so much better.....

ChronoKnot

there's a button you can press in the level-up menu btw, that explains the different stats and what they do I suggest you press it and give it a lil' read

calibersnake

I wouldn't mind videos with just voice, sometimes i tend to just watch the person playing and miss stuff on the actual video...

sundmark67

What a treat! I think this seems smoother to watch than the Switch version personally. Just to answer some of you questions as I'm watching: While trying to be as un-spoilery as possible, no the voices near the bird eggs are not a one time thing and you haven't lost out on anything 🙂 interacting with this is a bit cryptic though so you may eventually want to google it (or just ask us) 🤷 For leveling up tips, ignore resistance like the plague, it's next to useless. You can't really go wrong focusing on Vitality (HP), Endurance (Stamina and defence) and then focusing one of either strength or Dex (I think with pyromancer, Dex is more fun, but strength is perhaps a bit easier in DS). Your pyromancy flame is leveled up separately, but Attunement will allow more slots for different pyromancies, so consider that too 🙂

Andy

Also I do need to add those chapters to videos! I wouldnt 100% trust it as spoiler free as I often mention moments or things we have done in passing on my little travels anyway :(

Sym

Thank you for watching!

Sym

Ill try it out!! :)

Sym

Looks way better for sure. I don’t think it looks at all dark! It seems quite bright to me. It could be your video processing lightening it up, but this looks great. Your soft & warm craving friend is not a one time thing. And this is not a criticism, but just to reiterate my comment from the last thread, if you haven’t tried it, I truly think you’ll have a blast with the flame in one hand and a weapon in the other.

octopus for good

aw this is nice, i've had a super stressful day and i still can't watch the TotK vid for spoiler reasons, so thank you so much for this! i can relax with this for the rest of the day :)

ChilledGricken

Maybe you could try a game where you just add your voice? I know it's the norm now, but back in the day when lets plays first started, most people just uploaded their voice, no webcam. I even remember there was a bit of stigma around face cams for a while. That being said, you literally pumped your fist in the air when you beat the Taurus Demon in the first episode and that may have granted me a few extra months of life it was so wholesome, so I'm conflicted.

The Mighty Pipe

Totk will never let it rest 😈 I was thinking today, what will I do if this switch breaks, I cant take it travelling or anything anymore it needs to be guarded 24/7 haha.

Sym

Haha yeah it was very chill actually, I was more relaxed not on camera hahaha

Sym

* the Switch breathes a sigh of relief *

Trolez

Awesome. I'd love to see more little things like this on Patreon. Like unedited or cut bits from other videos. I'll get to this as soon as I finish the TOTK video.
