I studied the history/culture/folklore of Russia and the Balkans in college and it was incredibly fascinating. One aspect of supposed vampires not decomposing is also the season in which the person was buried, as the cold would greatly slow down the process. Another morsel of info that applies a bit more to revenants and witches than true vampires is the counting of grain or seeds. Villagers could throw loose grain/seeds on their door steps as the being they wished to ward off would be distracted and forced to stay and count each piece of grain, much like the knots.

It’s a hell of a read - chaotic but strangely familiar - and probably right up your alley.
