Onwards

Tomorrow, November 9th 2023, my third book is officially released into the world, putting a cap on a tumultuous period of my life that began in 2019 with Thunderbook, and echoed all the way to today. These releases should have been coupled with excitement and joy, but each has been tainted with mildly shitty events. In 2019 my marriage ended, and I had to consider what I would do, and how I would get out of the life that I'd had for 20 years. Then in 2021 Explodobook came out; a book written during the horrors of lockdown, home school, and domestic difficulties.  Now Superbook is here, and while I am forging ahead with an exciting new life, it was also written during a difficult time.

At the book launch party, and the signing event, I was asked by a few people what I will be doing next, and the honest truth is I don't know. I will carry on with the podcast, of course, as I love doing it, but in terms of further books, I'm just not sure.  My first love will always be the podcast, and bouncing off of guests, whether that be Smersh Pod, or A Wheezing Groaning Sound (the ONLY podcast about Doctor Who).

Options are open, obviously, but I think I need to just focus on what I enjoy for a while, and not put all that strain on myself again for at least a year or two, while everything calms down.

So as I write this, I am lining up podcasts and guests, some Columbo, some other films, and maybe even a set of Gene Hackman specials. It's all fun, whatever it is.

Also wanted to once again thank you for all your help via this Patreon. I often get messages from you telling me just how much the pod helped you through difficult times, and I just wanted to fire that back at you and say that your support has helped me through the worst times of my life, and for that I will always be incredibly grateful.

Be well,

John

I agree with the above - I've lost count of the amount of times that I've found solace in Smershpod - No matter how shite life can get, I can always listen to Dan Thomas's amazing Walken Impression, Paul Litchfield's Roger Moore and basically ALL of the Taffiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiinnn one!

I font know if you realise how much your podcast helps many of us too. There have many stressful times when listening to your podcast has brought much needed laughter and peace. The NHS should fund Smershpod.
