Wednesday Grab Bag: Loops are DONE, Omeria plug, and album recommendations!
Added 2020-07-15 23:50:04 +0000 UTCLOTS of projects wrapping up right now. I just finished some work for one of my video game clients (stay tuned), I just finished the all of the looping mp3s (standard and variants) for Artist tier patrons, and this past weekend I released Arkus, the biggest collaboration I've led yet! Arkus was such a fun project to work on. I've been designing that world and that document since late April, and it was so thrilling to see a bunch of my favorite artists bring it to life. In addition to jamming out to the 3 new tunes, I sincerely hope you enjoyed digging into the campaign setting and admiring the beautiful work of my collaborators.
With that, I'll be bringing "Life Returning to a Tainted Forest" (winner of the July track request poll) to you all in the next few days! After that, I think I'll be doing one more collaboration this month, and then onto various projects for August. On deck is the first SUPPLEMENT for Arkus; I'm thinking it'll be mechanically themed since the first batch was super lore heavy. Subclasses, items, monsters... that's what I have planned, but if there's anything in particularly you want to see, please let me know! And if you couldn't care less about this homebrew stuff, fear not. I'm tackling all that in my leisure hours, so it won't be negatively impacting the total quantity of tunes being released.
Next, you only have about 30 more hours to back the Legends of Omeria Starter Set by DM Dave, Cze and Peku, and Paper Forge. This is such an awesome bundle and a great value. It's honestly goofy how much stuff you get for the price. Definitely considering checking it out. These fine folks have supported me since day 1, and I'm really excited about their work.
Finally, I figured I'd give some non-D&D album recommendations. If you're a fan of my music, there's a good chance you'll like the stuff that influences it, so here's an eclectic look at some stuff that's been inspiring me lately:
- It Is What It Is by Thundercat: Virtuosic bass playing, soulful falsettos, and insane grooves. Every Thundercat album has been a masterpiece as far as I'm concerned, and some wild features (Childish Gambino, Lil B, Louis Cole) really kick this one up to 11.
- Space Haven (Original Soundtrack) by Paul Zimmerman: I've been following Space Haven's development for the past year or so. It's a Rimworld-esque space sim, and the soundtrack is ambient sci-fi GOLD. If you have a futuristic or space-faring RPG campaign, you could literally score the entire thing with this album.
- Island by Owen Pallett: Owen Pallett is what happens when you have a classically trained composer DORK and ask him to write perfectly esoteric pop music for a dozen years. It's moody and intricate and resists any easier interpretation. Also, there's a track called "Lewis Gets Fucked Into Space" which is hilarious.
- Waking Hours by Photay: This dude's first few releases were a bit more experimental in their use of electronics and mangled grooves, but this album is surprisingly poppier and probably more accessible. That doesn't mean it's any less eclectic. "Is It Right" makes 5/16 time signature into a casual bop. TBH: I'm jealous.
- Nausicaä of the Valley of Wind: Soundtrack - Toward the Far Away Land by Joe Hisashi (THROWBACK): I just watched Miyazaki's Nausicaä for the first time a few months ago and I've been really digging this fusion-y / proggy gem of a soundtrack from before Hisashi "refined" his sound. There's a lot of ugly stuff on here, but there's just as much weird Stravinsky-quoting, Emerson Lake and Palmer-esque organ diddling, and (to be quite blund) proto-anime synth bangers.
Anyway, that's it from me. Please reach out if you need anything!
