Remembering the Fallen

I believe the original is suitable for the vast majority of session recaps, but sometimes the failures of the past are still quite salient when starting up your current gameplay. Perhaps the party botched a quest, failed to save a dying a PC, or simply witnessed a dark plot hook that will be driving the story forward from this point forward.
When that is the case, you need something a bit more serious / somber for the recap. The emotional strings, slower tempo, and minor key definitely give this track a unique character compared to the original. Melodramatic? Mmm, yeah, maybe. But melodrama is great sometimes, especially in fantasy! In addition to recaps, you could always throw this on right after a big upsetting moment: PC / NPC death, aftermath of a battle, losing your home, etc.
Remember: it's not punishing your players to have bad stuff happen. Much of the time, play is enhanced by raising the stakes. Setting the mood can mean all the difference between coming off as a sadistic DM vs. a beautiful storyteller.
