2025-07-19 19:15:56 +0000 UTCThe discussion about friends A and B and the idea of "not saying something to maintain friendship" are both things discussed in a book I am currently reading called Crucial Conversations. Specifically, the book teaches us how to handle conversations that are 1) high stakes; 2) have high emotions; and 3) have differing opinions. The book also teaches that the choice to "say nothing and maintain a friendship/relationship vs say something and lose a relationship" is a false choice, or in other words you can in fact breach sensitive topics while maintaining and potentially even deepening relationships. I'm hoping to put the book to use in my life and perhaps it can help others as well.

Poki said she wouldn't vent to other people and just confront the problem, but did she talk about this to Friend A before talking about it here? If the answer is no, she is doing exactly the same thing she thinks is a problem.

2025-07-06 12:16:20 +0000 UTCI think something that makes the situation with A and B worse is that Poki found out that there was an extended period of time where she was making a mistake which was bothering someone, and multiple people knew but she didn't until AFTER. That's already a really embarrassing, vulnerable feeling, AND THEN B telling Poki instead of A creates this unnecessary middleman and we don't know if A wanted the information to get to Poki or not, so it creates these doubts about Poki and A's relationship. Poki had the opportunity to fix things taken away from her and now she feels like she's being treated like this big scary person. I completely see why it's so stressful!!

Very few humans i have met want to enter into any direct conversations with their friends over perceived actions of their's that concerned them. Talking around issues or involving other friends in discussions about them seems to be the norm. Logic goes out the window a lot of the time.
