¡Feliz Nochebuena!

In Nicaragua (where we just arrived) and in Mexico, Christmas Eve (Nochebuena in Spanish) is more important than Christmas day itself.

The bureaucracy in this part of the world can sometimes be frustrating, but we've generally had good experiences with port officials, who have usually been very friendly and helped us through the maze of officialdom with a smile. This time they even bought their nice dog with his little booties on!

Top tips for navigating these situations; Attempt to speak the local language (even if you suck), be patient, offer cold drinks, and - most importantly - get yourself an official stamp! We've had many laughs with the officials as I attempt to stamp every document in a vain effort to impress 😂

¡Feliz Nochebuena! ¡Feliz Nochebuena! ¡Feliz Nochebuena!

That is one fine looking pooch.

I believe the dog is a drug sniffing part of the Customs team. The boots are there to prevent claw marks on the vessels being inspected and to give the dog traction for safety. All of this is just my assumption.

I’m interested in the dog moccasins - I understand that they give a better grip on different decks and that they also protect decks from getting claw marks, but isn’t there also a risk of infections that the moccasins may prevent? In both ways? Or am I overthinking this?

Just before the new year I want to thank all those who made this project possible, be it building TallyHo or supporting the project. You all made possible that I could enjoy and learn about the crafts involved for years. I hope to follow through for several more.
