Quarter-knees!
Added 2023-08-14 23:58:57 +0000 UTCBob is looking pleased, and so he should be! He's just made the stern quarter-knees that fasten the bulwarks to the transom via a kevel cleat.
The purpose of the knees is to strengthen this joint, and they are an original detail. The kevel cleat behind it is for securing mooring lines (or other lines) to.
These knees are made out of Black Locust, and were sawn out of a piece with beautiful swept grain that matches the shape of the knee for optimum strength. They are now getting coats of linseed-oil varnish before final install.
