I've been having fun making the teak companionway ladder - the steep steps that are the primary entrance to the boat. I made some unusual jigs and used a router to shape the rounded through-tenons in the end of each step. I'm pretty pleased with how they fit into the morticed side-rails, and of course once the jig is perfected it's really quick and easy to cut identical joints for each of the steps. As well as being held by the tenons, the steps also sit in a shallow rebate in the side-rails for extra strength. These steps will need to hinge / lift out of the way in order to access the electrical cabinet underneath, so there are some engineering and design challenges involved in this project too.
