How to Eat a Human Being

Wow; Long-ish time, no see. This video gave me quite a bit of trouble, creatively, so it has been my full focus over these past couple of weeks. Although I do enjoy - to a degree - these deep dives into obscure pieces of history, I find myself decreasingly compelled to take the channel in this direction.

When I make videos about history, I worry that I'm kind of just assembling and regurgitating facts without adding anything particularly new to the world. Maybe I'm being too harsh -- I'm not sure. I think in the future you can probably expect a shift towards subjective, thought-based subjects and personal stories from my life. Broadly I just want to make great work rather than great "content".

In any case, thanks to everyone for your ongoing patience and support.

Brilliant! You managed to discuss an uncomfortable topic with many complicated nuances with respect and due diligence

S. P.

P.S. Have you ever considered doing a piece on Tchaikovsky?

Nelly Flanagan

Hi Mr. Sorensen, my name is Nelly and I am a writer and researcher. I would love to collaborate with you on a piece about the Vietnam War, Russian Revolution, or other similar (or disparate) topics. If you see this and wish to discuss further, you can contact me at ef1153@usnh.edu

Regurgitating or not, you are significant as a curator of the niche, odd, and unknown. Your diction and style keep us all thoroughly enraptured.

I don't see your work as "content" in the colloquially sense. I find that you provide great insight into subjects that most people would stray from or just give me a surface level interpretation of. I see the value of your work as "I never considered that." or "I didn't understand that the way I thought I did." I like that you tackle difficult subjects. In fact I think you are the only person I know who does it in this way and it's relieving to see someone truly thinking about a subject rather than "icebergs" or a wikipedia page being summarized. I think your personal life and experiences can be woven into these subjects in a way where it can provide even more insight and give an angle we never thought of. Whatever you choose to do I know it will be great. You're the only person I've ever paid for the patreon for and I never regret it bc the effort put into the work is refreshing for me. Especially with youtube steering me towards nothing but surface level takes, and "content" I really hope this proves lucrative for you and you can continue to educate us. I hope it still has some joy for you and that you can follow your own curiosity freely. Thanks for all the effort you put dude! I can say every time I see a new upload I'm more excited for it than any tv show/movie or other form of media out for a long time now.

I think you under value the amount of insight you bring to your videos. I know a fair bit about most things you’ve covered. But I’m always excited to see what you have to say about them. You’re the only subscription I have on this platform and you were the only creator thus far that could convince me to come over.

Michael, just so you're aware, I love historical facts, mysteries, oddities and deep dives. I thoroughly enjoy your videos because they teach me about people or moments I cannot sit still to read or watch about. There is plenty macabre, murder based stories on YT. Please don't listen to whoever tells you thats all you should do. 💙

It’s difficult finding a happy middle ground between challenging yourself to make something original but also something an audience wants. I used to make YouTube videos full-time, and the death of my channel was me chasing what I thought the audience wanted for too long. It burns you out, and feeds a subtle resentment that can metabolize and swallow you whole. Not saying it’s an always/never scenario, but def something to keep in mind. Tbh though, I trust your writing/video style that anything you cover will be appealing.

Without even watching I'll say I support your thoughts/feels 100%. What I want from a content creator is for them to show me who they are through their work/art.
