Sorcery A21 - Full Compat in August
Added 2023-07-29 13:09:20 +0000 UTCSorcery will be releasing in all of its A21.1 Full Compatibility glory this August! Although A21.0 has forced our hand on several redesigns, our core systems and features have already been made functional in A21.1 Experimental.
This morning, I updated our Fallen Entities' animations to the latest A21 Animation Controller. Last night, our Familiar Pups were brought back to life, along with updating all Particles, Textures, Materials and Assets to the latest version of Unity. The day before, all core systems were made fully compatible with A21.1... this involved eliminating unreliable C# DLL code and reverting to the preferred XML native language.
WHAT'S LEFT?
Quests, POIs, Balancing and final testing.
A21 removed a few core features, namely Buff checks, from the native Quest system. Basically, this forces our hand in a re-design of many quests that relied on Buff-checks. An example of this would be "Kill XX enemies using a Fire Spellcast". There may be C# DLL (non-native) code that can substitute this, however, I would like to avoid this and continue Sorcery in its originally intended path of remaining 99-100% native XML. Employing the natively supported XML language VS C# DLL ensures the best performance, more compatibility and faster updates.
WAS COMPATIBILITY PURPOSELY DELAYED FOR A21.1?
Yes and No. My personal IRL schedule and focus has been hectic. Regardless, I'm always checking our Discord and following 7 Days to Die news. In tracking A21.0's release/progress, it became clear there were many issues present in the release. As of a few days ago, I confirmed A21.1 is "stable enough" to resume A21 Compat progress. Thus, here we are well on our way to a full compat release of Sorcery for A21.1.
WHAT'S THE ROADMAP FOR SORCERY LOOKING LIKE THIS YEAR?
The majority of majorly discussed features from our Discord will likely be making their way in this year. This includes more custom Entities, POIs, Gambling, Spells, Features, Items, Story/Lore and more. Contingent on strong ongoing support, the new Unholy Element will also be releasing this year! Contingent on even stronger ongoing support, I'm not opposed to making the time to also release the Holy Element this year or early next year, as well.
The choice to spend my time developing Sorcery is 100% contingent on the level of ongoing Support I receive through Patreon. I do not have the luxury of spending hundreds of hours developing as a pure hobby... AKA I am not retired or wealthy.
WILL SORCERY A21 BE IN EARLY ACCESS TESTING FIRST?
No. I am making the choice to send this full A21.1 Compatibility release straight to Public in August. This decision is being made to prevent "gating" Sorcery A21 behind a paywall.
However, the following feature-filled A21 Sorcery update will go to Supporter Early Access testing, sometime after initial compatibility release. This update will contain a handful of new features and items for internal testing.
THANK YOU for your Support in making the ongoing development of Sorcery possible!
