Development Update #84

Hello everyone,

Few announcements this week, Let's start with the progress on the Dreams of Reality update:

Slowly closing in on the final sections of this update, though for the 'night-time activities' there will be an expansion of those scenes.

Not sure if I've mentioned this previously, however, it is intended in this update to lock certain paths in the game, for example choosing a specific path with Kimiko, may lock you out of a path with Danielle. A lot of this is dependent on the choices you make whilst playing.

So, with that in mind I've been toying with the idea of adding a 'cheat' menu where you can turn specific paths on or off, it would need to be dynamic where you turn one path on, it automatically disables another path. Failing to do that would lead to a severely confused continuity of the story.

I have seen a few other games offer this, especially more story-driven ones where some paths get locked out via choices - I'm never a big fan of players discovering they are 'locked-out' of content due to an early decision, which is why I try to make each decision obvious as to what it will do.

An issue with this sort of 'cheat' menu, is that it really breaks the fourth wall. And in a game like Dreams of Reality, this can have a devastating effect on a player's emersion into the game. It's something I try to avoid.

I might save this 'feature' until much closer to the final release, this is probably the better middle ground. I am interested in your thoughts on this, should I add it into the next update? or perhaps not add it at all? Let me know in the comments below.

BONUS IMAGES

It seems it was a tie between Kimiko and Danielle for the Bonus images this month. So, I did an image of them both. These are done and will be posted up for you all this coming week.

WHAT'S NEXT

Plan for the coming week is to get back to the bonus images, I should also be able to code in the 2 hidden ones. I'd like to get both the Cassie and Danielle scenes (and their variations) written and the images created.

If I'm talking about the night-time events next week, I will be in a happy place.
