Developer Log #4

Hello, on this week’s Developer Log, I will be covering the choice path for Louise. Players of Dreams of Reality will know that as the wife of the main character she is in effect the first love interest you will encounter.

As part of your family, Louise has the most story routes in the game. At the end of chapter one, this stands at eight in total.

Before I go into detail about those choices, let me give you my definition of route and path and how they apply to Dreams of Reality.

                             Currently Louise has the most routes in the game.

Multiple routes, multiple paths.

Each character has a path that is denoted by a character, and within those paths are routes, these are denoted by a number. Think of a route as a collection of choices within a similar path, some paths in the future may have more than 2 routes.

An example, Louise’s Route 1 of Path B, would probably be classed as the ‘supportive husband – naughty boy’ route/path. Whereas Route 2 of Path B is still the ‘supportive husband’ but you get caught with Cindy (club slut, as she has… affectionately become known!)

Both routes within the path are similar, so I have put them together as in future chapters those routes may join. You might end chapter one on Route 1 of Path A, but end up at the close of chapter two on Route 3 of Path B – even if playing a similar playstyle that got you to R1:PA. 

Each route and path are intended to be dynamic, as above you might change paths during subsequent chapters, some routes/paths will close whilst new ones may open and take their place. I intend to try to keep a similar ‘feeling’ path (supportive, good boy, not sleeping around) on its own combination as this should make understanding where you are in the story easier.

I will also probably add some information to the end game screen that will show if you have switched paths.

         The choices you made in Chapter one will play out in later chapters.

Consider the next section to contain spoilers to Dreams of Reality: Chapter One. 

There are two key choices with Louise and a few lesser choices that will come into effect in other Chapters.

The first choice is presented once you wake up in the present day, Louise will talk about her meeting with Sebastian Cleaver and you will decide between supportive of her career or realistic. Being supportive will push you into a path of putting Louise’s ambitions before your own. Whereas the realistic approach will tend to focus on your own struggles first. Although not impossible, it will be harder to push Louise away from you if you choose to support.

The second key choice you will make involves Cindy; things get a little more involved here. Depending on your previous choices Louise will have the option to remain with Sebastian at the restaurant or go and visit the MC at the Purple Orchid.

Choosing the latter option will mean you will get caught by Louise. So, choosing to take advantage of Cindy or refuse are the options here. Going further with Cindy will have consequences that play out in Chapter Two. However, if you refused Louise will be willing to overlook your actions, for now. 

If Louise gets driven home by Sebastian, she will never catch you no matter the option you pick. But could you live with yourself? This sets up an alternative conflict with Louise, which will play out in later chapters. 

Lesser choices, but still influencing the story are if you go assist Louise with the photocopier or lie to her about your job at the Purple Orchid. There is also the relationship point system, which plays into how far Louise is willing to go during intimate times with you.

That about wraps this up, a little helpful hint for those who read this far, Louise may be willing to forgive you for sleeping around once but get caught again and she won’t be!
