It is strange trying to understand what possessed the writers to choose to make Elizabeth such an utterly toxic character that was hated by almost everyone. It may be that the "Who is Raymond Reddington?" plot had become so complex that few of the writers knew where they were going anymore, so they just went mad with her instead. Most of us hated Lizzy so much that we were tempted to stop watching. A lot of people walked away from the program for a while because of her, but James Spader brought us back again. We wanted to know what had happened to him. As others have said, she does get worse. But she is not the focus in every episode. In my view it is worth holding on until the end of series 8, as that answers a lot of questions. You can always choose what to do after that. If you cannot face it at all, then those of us who have stuck with it could just give you a list of 10 of the best episodes to get you to the series 8 finale. Just as you are doing with your Star Trek TOS reactions, you could skip the bad episodes. (Those that are "Lizzy centered.") But you would obviously miss some of the background to what is happening. Unlike Star Trek with it's "new story every week" The Blacklist has stories that run over seasons and further. I myself still have the final series to watch, as I have several other programs lined up to see and I prefer to read books anyway. I even have graphic novels with Raymond Reddington in them that I have not read yet. :-)

Imo seasons 7 and 8 get even worse, with Liz getting more and more insufferable. But if you want to and manage to get through, the last few eps of season 8 and onward will get better again. (Not as good as earlier seasons tho, just better than right now)
