So, The Sports Festival Arc to me seems a riff on the Chunen Exams from Naruto - in some ways better, and in other ways not as good. I feel like the stakes here weren't as high, but still pretty good. Gran Torino is widely believed to have been named and based off the Clint Eastwood movie. One thing Kōhei Horikoshi (the MHA author/mangaka) is good at is presenting things that are normally pretty black and white, and adding a lot of color - we see Heroes who do some pretty bad stuff, we see Heroes who act like villains, we see Heroes who look like villains just trying to do good.

He’s a bit unhinged. But say what you must about him he at least doesn’t want to take the easy way out. Some scum would exploit others weaknesses so that they could win or try to cheat. So there’s that at least. But ya even Kirishima (red head hardening quirk guy) said some things he says doesn’t sound very heroic 😂. He sometimes sounds more like a villain than the villains we’ve seen so far in the show at this point haha 🤣. - [ ] I love how Deku kept his nickname as his hero name. Idk what else it’d be. What do you think his hero name could have been? - [ ] The Gran Torino movie was first I think it came out in 2008 and the MHA manga came out in 2014 I think. - [ ] Gran Torino is amazing. I loved the old man dementia trope. - [ ] Deku’s hero costume got an upgrade that was much needed. I mean his original suit while being sweet being made by his mom just looked a bit silly. It was a green tracksuit with bunny ears 😂. I’m glad they improved it looks, quality, and tech wise. But I do liked that they kept the likeness of the one the mom made from his sketch. - [ ] Deku finally gaining some control on OFA was much needed. - [ ] I can’t wait to see more of your reactions.
