Your right 99.9% of the time the ship would have cut the kids down but I think they where trying to say that the AI was being put into the body so it did not see what was going on. Really they where just looking for her to have a nude walk in and and show her power. Star Trek use to do that all the time as well. They would have some big problem that they had to forget some of the things the ship can do to keep the show from ending after 5 minutes.
