The Originals 1x1 Reaction

Comments

There are 8 seasons. But I have only seen season 8 once. 7 I've seen a couple times, but not always all the way through. Every time I try to rewatch it, I just fizzle out lol. I even rewatched them and got up to season 7 a few months before I started watching these videos. But his reactions has made me change my opinions about some episodes and characters so far, so watching those seasons with him should be more entertaining than trying to watch them by myself

I have to agree with you. Seasons 1-4 of TVD are the seasons I love the most (with season 3 being my favourite). S5 I personally thought was pretty slow and at times even boring, s6 was a bit better again but still nowhere close to s2,3&4. Didn't watch s7 and 8 (are there 8 seasons? Or are there even more?😅) so I don't have an opinion about them :D I will experience those two seasons together with Clint :)

MsDanibanani90

Funnily enough, I watched TO first and TVD second. So I didn't know much about Elijah at this point BUT within a single episode he immediately became my favorite character, so when Klaus daggered him at the end of that episode I was about to flip a table lol. Now that I've re-watched TVD (seasons 1-4) and TO too many times to count I just find it hilarious because of course that's how we get introduced to Klaus- him throwing a hissy fit and daggering a sibling. I swear, how did Elijah put up with Klaus' ass for 1000 years🤣 (I have to add that Klaus is also my favorite character. Elijah and Klaus both are my all time faves. But Klaus is such an arse most of the time lol 😆)

MsDanibanani90

Klaus daggering Elijah in this episode annoyed me so much because there was so much of that happening in TVD and I thought he could move past it, but no. I guess for people that never watched TVD it wouldn't have been annoying, but it really bothered me cause I love Elijah so much, and how can you have a show about the originals with one of the only three that are still alive daggered in a box

Kitty Underwood

After binging your reactions to TVD I'm finally caught up, and what good timing too since you are now watching both shows so I get to enjoy the back and forth with you. Both shows are great, although I think from this point forward you might actually enjoy TO more than TVD, most fans agree that seasons 1-4 are peak TVD. Everyone has their own opinions though and it's totally okay for us to not all agree, there's no reason for anyone to get upset that someone doesn't agree with their opinion, or even with the "facts" of one show receiving more praise/awards than another show. I really can't wait for you to find out more about Marcel and his connection to the original family. He was one of my favorites from the first time we saw him in TVD, and he only gets better

Well I am only 1 episode into The Originals so I cant say. Honestly I dont judge shows/movies based on awards. Awards to me are more a popularity contest or who had the best PR team or what agenda is being pushed at the time of the awards. I absolutely love TVD but I love many shows for many different reasons. I just want everyone here to have fun and enjoy the commentary I provide. Nothing but love.

@Megareacts So to play devils avocate, why TO hasn't won anything of those, in your opinion non important, awards? BY the way, People Choices Awards, is a VERY important prestigious Award ceremony that has been going on for 48 years and tell all the people that won awards there, that those awards aren't important or second rate, 😳 Those awards are given every year to worthy television show, also Young Hollywood Awards, TV Guide Awards, MTV MIAW, IGN Summer Movie Awards,, ASCAP Film and Television Music Awards, not to mention the 68 nominations. In the industry web page TVD rank n17 in the list of among the most watched show of all times. TO isn't in the list. I'm not saying that TO isn't good I am saying TVD is far superior. It is very difficult that fantasy show win Emmy's. and usually if they do it's only for costume and make up, so those make up Emmy's awards are more valuable than the one that TVD won? I am working in the industry in a Oscars/Baftas winning company that does documentaries, my boss first important documentary won 43 awards, not Oscars or Baftas, but are still 43 awards and that is recognition of value and merit. Fact. So, there is artistic value in TVD, indeed, and the more time passes , the more adults discover it, the more popular become, and it's popularity stand the test of time ONLY because there is substance and quality, because otherwise it would have been forgotten when it ended, 6 years ago, instead is more popular than ever, during pandemic it was streamed 14 billion times. Why? Tell me another show that it's still watched that much after it ended years ago. None in the fantasy genre, for sure. So yes, TVD is television writers goals, it's producers dream, it's Networks dream show, for those reasons. Do you have any idea of how much money the network owning TVD still does because it's so requested by people? Do you know that during pandemic in UK Netflix lost the licence of TVD and people petitioned to have it back and pester the network to have it back on, hundreds of Tweets, hundreds of complaint, at the point that forced them to buy the licence from CW again? So in 2022 an old show went n. 4 on Netflix UK again after 5 years it ended. How do you explain that, if not with quality that stands the test of time? You are an adult, you've seen many show, I know you can tell when a show is well written, well acted, manage to built a good emotional connection, or the directing and editing is excellent. So can't you see all of that in TVD? What do you think artistic merits are all about, if not great writing, capable to write beautiful meaningful powerful poetic messages, exploring the human condition, all delivered by great acting, great emotional connection, in an original way, while standing the test of time? TVD is not just great entertainment, generating a great spin off, but is so much more, you should have realise that by now.

Patpet

Just to play devils advocate it's not like TVD is an Emmy award winning show. It's mainly teen choice and people choice awards. No doubt TVD is a popular show and I like it but it is not some universally revered show held up as a pentacle of artistic achievement.

Mega Reacts

@MegaReacts Yes in terms of taste, not in terms of artistic universal values. A Picasso picture cannot be of your liking but you cannot deny it's artistic value. Otherwise what is the point of studying and learning anything, if everything is subjective and not based on facts, isn't measurable by recognised studies done over the years, centuries, on universal values, and isn't recognised universally of some value to the human evolution of knowledge and cognition. Lets' not mix up taste with facts in term of artistic values. The first is subjective the second one is objective.

Patpet

Plenty of shows/movies that win awards I find mediocre. No matter how acclaimed some things are they might not resonate with all people in the same way.

Mega Reacts

It's not that I feel different, those things I wrote are facts, that you acknowledge them or not, doesn't chance the reality of it. You cannot compare facts with taste in order to deny that fact are not matching with your taste. My taste and your taste are of equivalent value, opinions are personal and perfectly fine either way, but fact are factual, are reality and it has an unmovable universal value that is there no matter how you and I feel about it . The awards are there for a reason, have been given by the audiences and by people in the industry that evaluate a show from a professional point of you, storylines originality, performances, cinematography etc. not out of random opinions, or personal taste that are surely valid, but not to establish the real measurable artistic value of a show. And that TVD is on another level, because of those factors of artistic value is a fact. And by the way season 6, 7 and 8 are absolutely brilliant, in terms of writings, characters development, story circling, cinematography, etc. Season 7 has the best episode of the entire TVD, a television masterpiece, a mini film. So taste is one thing, facts are something else.

Patpet

So I finally got around to watching your TO reaction (the anticipation pretty much the only thing that kept me going today. What a shitty day.) I don't even know where to start, there is just so much I want to discuss. But I'll try to limit it a little. The thing that had me chuckling throughout the episode was how you gushed about how much we get to see of Elijah in The Originals and Klaus is like "hold my beer" and puts a dagger right into his (and your) heart. And you kept mentioning Klaus getting out his daggers...ooh well :D :D I totally get your reaction when Elijah voiced his hope that a baby would maybe finally be a way for Klaus to find happiness. I can't remember exactly how you phrased it but I think it was something along the lines of "yes, let's put that burden on a kid." And in a way you are absolutely right, it is beyond unfair to put so much expectation on a child. That this child has to manage a feat that even Elijah himself has not been able to accomplish in 1000 years. But I am 110% certain that Elijah would never, ever allow any harm to befall the child, be it from outsiders or even from Klaus himself. And I know he will do anything in his power that this child grows up loved. You can already tell how much this unborn child means to him. He is all about family. There are so many great scenes/lines in this episode alone, one of them being Marcel's "You wanna pass on through, you wanna stay a while? Great. What's mine is yours. But it is MINE. My home, my family, my rules." "And if someone breaks those rules?" "They die. Mercy is for the weak. You taught me that. And I'm not the prince of the quarter, friend. I'M THE KING!" This is such a fucking great scene! Oh man, I can't wait for you to experience this bloody brilliant, bloody thrilling ride that is this show. (And don't worry, there is going to be A LOT of Elijah in that show ;) )

MsDanibanani90

Yay! I’m so excited to see you go on this TO journey! I am so excited to see more reactions! Will we get a special two episode upload of TO in the future? 👀

Loki

Very true! And that's what makes it so much fun. I just love discovering what parts of tvd and to you like and what parts you don't and how your opinions differ from mine. It's just such an incredibly fun journey :)

MsDanibanani90

Everyone views art differently...

Mega Reacts

It's totally fair that you feel different about it and I respect your opinion.

MsDanibanani90

Absolutely not. You would said so only if you are incapable to undestanstand how deep TVD is, its intricacy , its complexity. TVD won 38 awards, TO none, an that is not by chance, TVD is in the list of the most watched show of ALL TIMES on IMDb (the industry web page) ranking 17th TO isn't in the list, TVD only during pandemic was streamed 14billion times. So it has the stamp mark of adult and of the majority of audience across the globe as a true masterpiece. TO is very entreating and certainly brilliant after all it is written by the same people that wrote TVD, but having to run two show at the same time, 22 episode each, one of them had to be simpler, less complexed, less deep, less intricate, less structurally elaborated. That is why TVD has the re-watchability factor and TO doesn't. In TVD once you have gain all the informations about the characters, you can rewatch the show and you will have an entirely different take of characters actions and motivations. With TO once you watch it and finish it you are done like the majority of other show, regardless you like it a lot of not. That is one more reason TVD is on another level. You watch TO because you watched TVD, because it's little brother.

Patpet

Agreed. I really LOVE tvd seasons 2-4 (mainly because of the introductuion of Klaus and Elijah and their storylines) BUT TO is just on another level- especially seasons 2 and 3. This is of course all just my personal opinion and not a fact. And I totally respect it if you disagree with my opinion :)

MsDanibanani90

I love both shows but The Originals is 10x better than The Vampire Diaries.
