2023-03-04 18:25:20 +0000 UTCOh man we are finally here. The Originals! I can't tell you how happy I am that you liked this pilot (just a heads-up, this episode is very, very similiar to TO S1 ep1. So you will defnitely have a bit of a deja-vu when you get to ep1 of TO :D ). Unfortunately I can't really leave you a long comment right this moment, as I am already running a little late for my board-game-day with my friends but I just HAD to watch both of your reactions or else I wouldn't have been able to concentrate the whole day :D BUT as soon as I return tonight, I WILL come back here and write you something longer, because there is A LOT on my mind :) Thank you so much for this double-drop. This is entirely another show, with a different vibe, the same writers, but because they are so brilliant they manage to write two parallel shows of 22 episode each and make them both brilliant. TO is not as complex, as intellectual, as deep as TVD, but as a spin off is surely a really good son of TVD. Obviously if you have to write two show at the same time, you will have to make one of them simpler in structure and in depth and make the topic you touch less broad. TO is about the importance of family and the straggle for power. That makes TO more accessible to every age audience, because less complex. So young people that cannot get what huge giant of dept TVD is, mistakenly think that TO is more adult only because there are much less teenager charcters, when is quite the opposite. Ohh you will hear someone somewhere telling you that "TO is a more mature show" 🙄...but TVD won 38 awards, TO none, TVD is in the IMDb (the Film and Television industry official page) list of "the most watched show of all time" ranking 17, TO isn't in the list, so you can draw your own conclusion on the crediblity of certain superficial assertions. TVD is on another level, has the rewatchability factor that TO doesn't have. But having said that, it doesn't mean that TO isn't brilliant as well, but once you finish it, you are done, there is nothing that can be added to your first vision. On the contrary in TVD, once you finishh it and have all the information, you can rewatch and it's an entire different show, with a complitelly different prospective on the characters, their actions and their motivations. What you've seen is part of the pilot, but it is Klaus' point of view, in the pilot of TO you wil see the Elijah point of view and more. The witches of TO in New Orleans are on another level, and Marcel is just casted in TVD fashion, gorgious, sexy, great actor, with charasma and screen presence, menacing killer smile, can sing and he is as smooth as a any men in the TVD universe is. I agree with you, my favourite are just the same, Damon first, because Damon is an icone, is the original mold for so many copy that came after him, (Lucifer, Iron Man, Castle, to mention some that comes to mind) writen to be like him, succesfully or not, snorky, sassy, sexy like hell, sweet and deadly, passional, stylish, with the best hilarious quick lines always, charming bad boy with a good heart. Elijah was created to counter balance Damon. In the TVDU mirrors of characters, Klaus is Damon taken to the extreme, and Elijah is the opposite extreme of Stefan, that is why Klaus and Stefan are friends, and Damon prefers Elijah, because they are the other versions of their brothers. Where Stefan and Elijah are the more brutal and scarier brothers because they are more calm and collected and when they strike are more deadly then anybody. Also Stefan and Elijah feel guilty about their brothers, Stefan because force Damon to turn, and Elijah because he let his father abuse Klaus when they were young, without intevene. So they want to attone by saving their brothers. The writers, in Elijah and Klaus case, took the situation to the extreme. Elijah, as well, come immediately second as favourite vampire, Daniel Gillies, that did an amasing job, being the first of the originals to be casted, wasn't supposed to last long. But this is a case of the actor making the role. And together with Joseph Morgan and Claire Holt brilliant acting, they made the Originals so compelling and interesting that a spin off was a too good of an opportunity not to make it happening. Little fan facts, Ian Sommerhalder and Daniel Gillies made a film together when they were younger, so I guess Ian suggested Daniel, while Paul meet Joseph Morgan and told to the casting to give him a chance. So we have to thank, Ian for Daniel, Paul for Joseph, and Claire for Phoeby Tonkin (Hayley) since they did a marmede show together when they were young, so we probably she suggested her for Hayley. Anyway I can't wait for you to discover more of the TVDU by doing TO too.
