Only 2 ways to have gravity in space, thrust gravity and spin gravity. Engines provide the thrust required for gravity on the ships. No engine/thrust no gravity. Spun up asteroids provide the low g gravity on the space stations, if they were not spinning there would be no gravity :)

Yes, one thing that sets The Expanse apart is the realistic physics, and how they actually incorporate it into the storytelling and drama. Gravity is always a concern, and things we take for granted in other Sci-Fi like accelerating, stopping, and maneuvering can be deadly.

Love your reactions! About the gravity: you were right, when they stop the engine, they lose the artificial gravity. It's not technically artificial gravity, though. Think of the ships as skyscrapers, with the drive on the bottom. Everytime they move through space, they're going up like in an elevator, not forward as in most sci-fi. The thrust from the drive generates a force that acts like gravity. As soon as the drive stops, there is no more acceleration, so there is no more gravity. It's realistic physics, we just don't have drives efficient enough to do the same thing right now. Funnily enough, there is a physics mistake in this episode: since the drive is turned off and the ship is not accelerating, letting the wrench go would just make it float in front of you, not be lost like we saw. That would have happened if the drive was on. Anyway, again, love the reaction. I'm very happy that you're continuing with The Expanse. It's worth it! Have a good one!
