The Vampire Diaries 5X19: Man on Fire
Added 2025-08-14 23:48:47 +0000 UTCOkay, so this episode was better than the previous one, but I'm still not loving this storyline (glad to read I'm not alone in this).
Stefan and Elena are studying at the Grille when Enzo shows up claiming he's here for revenge since he just learned that Stefan killed Maggie. Stefan is super confused, but Enzo shows him a picture of her ripped apart by a ripper. Both Elena and Stefan claim he wasn't a ripper in 1960 (when she died), but Enzo refuses to believe them. So, he tortures Stefan to get him to confess.
Damon, for his part, realizes something is wrong and wrangles Liz into getting him the files for murders at that time. Once he sees the one Enzo is talking about, he realizes he was the murderer, not Stefan. He heads over to Grille and tries to talk Enzo down. He tells him that he did it, but he had no idea that the woman (All he knew about her was she was part of A project- I cannot remember the name of the group that tortured them. I tried to look it up, but I was getting into spoiler territory, so I quit. But you know) was his Maggie.
He slips Stefan something to undo his ropes (he and Elena are tied up with vervain coated ropes) while he tries to talk to Enzo. He tells him kill him, hate him. It's his fault, not Stefan or Elena's. But Enzo claims he doesn't want to hate Damon. He's the only person he's got left. So, there is only one more thing to do. He turns off his humanity. Damon tries to stop him, but it's too late. Enzo is running on pure instinct now.
Enzo then goes after Liv, taking a big chunk out of her neck. He also manages to escape with Elena. Damon goes after them, while Stefan stays back to give her some of his blood so she can recover. However, Stefan still manages to run into Enzo first. The two of them fight, while Damon finds on unconscious Elena (Enzo snapped her neck and left her there) and deposits her at home.
Stefan seems to be under the impression that if he doesn't kill Enzo, Enzo will kill Damon (and I think he's probably right). They fight for a bit and then Stefan plunges his hand through Enzo's chest to grab his heart. Enzo reminds him that if he kills him, Damon might never forgive him. And then, Enzo pulls himself backwards, forcing Stefan to rip his heart out. I think this was very much an assisted suicide situation.
He and Elena decide to keep this from Damon deciding that he probably can't handle it and tell him that 'humanities off Enzo' skipped town. Damon is determined to find him and rehab though, as he feels like this is his fault.
And there's a bunch of bullshit Travelers stuff too. Sigh. Long story short, the Travelers figure out that mixing Stefan and Elena's blood counteracts magic. So if they can get enough of it (Didn't they have gallons? What the hell did they do with it?), they get make the vampires human, and the witches's curse on them cease to exist. I'm not gonna complain about it any more. I'm just gonna go with it.
