Again I say, I SCREAM, Mariana needs an adult. She cannot navigate this situation on her own. Hell, I'm not sure I could navigate this situation on my own. This is way beyond the capability of a 16 year old. I'm begging Jesus to tell Stef what's going on (or any adult, really, but Stef seems like the best option).
Anyway, we find out that Lena's dad owes $300,000 to the IRS. That's not chump change. And they are gonna take the house (the Fosters-Adam house) if they don't get it. He swears he's meeting with a tax attorney and will come up with a plan. However, when he gets back, his solution is a get rich quick scheme that they need to come up with 20k for. The solutions don't look great. And by the end of the episode, Stef and Lena are talking to a realtor. Now, for where they live, and what the house could sell for, this might be a good option, but I can't imagine it's something they want.
Mariana has spent this episode angry, upset, annoyed, snippy, and a million other negative things. Turns out, Nick's doctors are calling the house asking when she's going to see him again. She told Stef that she broke it off with him, but we find out she didn't. He's still claiming his going to hurt himself if she leaves him. And, understandably, that's a difficult thing to have on your conscious.
So, Stef showed up at Nick's court appearance where it was going to be decided if he got out of the hospital and argued that he wasn't actually better. He's having his doctors call the house, even though he knows the relationship is over. He denies and claims he was just trying to get the diamond necklace he gave Mariana back, and this is all a big misunderstanding. Stef tells the judge that he broke into their house and waiting for 24 hours to get Mariana alone and pull a gun on her. And his fucking dad acting like that was a misunderstanding too. What is going on in this family?
Regardless, Nick gets out and moved to some kind of boy's center. He starts texting Mariana all the time asking when she is coming to see him. She lies and tells her that moms won't let her, but he counters with she doesn't need permission where he is now. Jesus, who is concerned after reading a text from him, follows her and watches her meet up with him. Later, he asks her what's up and she spills about him planning to kill himself if she doesn't pretend to still be with him.
Callie and Aaron have been working on Kyle's case in the garage. They've got all the boxes from Kyle's mom and are pouring over them. They aren't finding much though. However, Callie does notice that there is a sheet missing. As they are discussing it, Lena comes in and starts very angrily yelling about how Callie should be working on her senior project and not this. (Granted, she's pissed about her dad and Brandon but this is bullshit. I demand an apology). Callie suggests changing her project to Kyle and Lena damn near loses her mind. She makes Aaron leave and Callie is left confused.
Later, when she's trying to work on her project, but gets upset and slashes it with a razor, Aaron shows back up. He's got the missing page from earlier and, while it seems like it doesn't hold much relevant information, it does claim that the person who killed the woman was right handed. Problem is: Kyle is left handed. As soon as Callie realizes this, she calls Aaron and leaves a message for him. I'm not sure if it means something that he didn't answer.
Jude has decided to get high with Noah. Well, sort of. He actually changed his mind and decided to back out, but Noah brought edibles, not joints, so Jude didn't realize he was already partaking. It goes well enough for them. They are giggly, they kiss a little. It's fine. However, the next day in class, we see Jude continuing to enjoy the edibles during class. This is gonna be a problem.
And the shit hits the fan when Lena finds out that Brandon took the SAT for someone else. She's pissed because, since she knows this, she ethically obligated to say something. But, if she does, she ruins Brandon's chances of ever going to college. He ends up giving the money back and making the guy take the test on his own, but Lena doesn't feel any better about the situation. On the plus side, Courtney has paid him back $900. She sold her surfing gear. She claims he's not the only one who gets to make sacrifices. I guess this is good, but I'm still ready for this relationship to be over.
I'm really loving both Callie's and Mariana's storylines right now. Am I the only one who is rooting for her and Aaron to get together? I have nothing against AJ, but I think I'd like her better with him.
