Virgin River 1X6: Let's Mingle

Okay, so it's the annual barn dance episode. Hope is way into this. Mel tried to beg off, but Hope refused to let her. They are chatting about it (after Mel tried to talk to Jack about his PTSD and night terrors) when Joey suddenly shows up. It's her birthday weekend and she claims she wants to spend it with Mel.

However, she is being cagey about what's going on with her family, and Mel is suspicious. But, Joey spends all her time trying to convince Mel to come back to LA and refuses to listen to her when she says she wants to stay. It's honestly very annoying. It would be different if Mel wasn't doing anything except laying around in bed, or she was obviously very depressed, but she's got a job and friends and she's involved in the town.

Doc tells Hope that he's got a lawyer that is coming today to sign the divorce papers, but Hope claims with the dance prep, she won't have time. Then, she's told that if they don't do it today, he'll be gone for a month. She reluctantly agrees, but argues that she shouldn't have to the pay the lawyer since he's the one who cheated. He claims they should spilt it because he doesn't want to get divorced at all.

At the dance, Doc is pissed since Hope never bothered to show up for the appointment. She claims she just got busy, but she couldn't even be bothered to call. They are still fighting when Doc ends up dancing with Connie, who tells him that he broke Hope's heart when he cheated. He was her third husband and was supposed to be better than both of her previous husbands. She tells him he's got to find a way to earn her trust back. I don't think these two are going to get divorced.

Also, at the dance Charmaine and Jack finally have the conversation they need to have. She confesses that she loves him, and he just keeps talking about how they agreed to keep it casual. Eventually, she demands that he tell her he loves her or they break up. And he can't do it. This is what needed to happen. He was never in this relationship. I feel bad for her, as she seems like a nice enough person, but this is just obviously not the right relationship for her. Especially, since he's pretty hung up on Mel.

Joey is busy getting drunk with Brady, as Mel becomes more and more concerned about her home life. She sees a text from her husband that said he got an apartment. After she actually speaks to Bill, Mel tries to talk to Joey, but she's insistent about going home with an equally drunk Brady. And when Mel tells her she spoke to Bill, she gets even angrier and more determined to go off with Brady. Jack tries to stop them by telling Brady that Joey is married, but he counters with, 'So is Mel.' So Jack punches him. It was pretty great.

And Preacher and Paige are obviously attracted to each other, but all of Paige's lies are totally getting in the way. My money is still on abusive ex. Especially after she thinks she sees someone at the dance, and then can't find Christopher. She freaks out. And once she finds him (he's literally right there) she grabs him and bails on the rest of the dance as she's shaken up.

I know it's only episode six, but I'm ready for Mel to move into this cabin and bring Jack with her. I'm also ready for Joey's drama to be finished and for her to go home. I liked her much better when she was just a voice over the phone.
