The Fosters 3X16: EQ

Did anyone actually read Romeo and Juliet in high school? I swear, I only ever hear about it on TV when high schools are supposed to read it or put on a play. I've never read it.

So, Brandon has asked Lena if they can rehearse in the gym (or wherever) because they need to start adding more characters so they need more space. When Lena runs this by Monte, she tells her that some of the students are upset with Brandon's rock opera, as they think Romeo and Juliet glamorizes suicide. Lena is shocked and tells Brandon, but she's not really concerned.

Sally (head of the honor society and the girl who Monte helped with her garden stuff last week) is leading the charge against Brandon and his opera. They end up hosting a meeting for the honor board and letting them decide if the show can go on. Sally and Mariana both excuse themselves from the vote, but Brandon still loses and can't put on the show. However, he asks Lena if they can do it off school property, which she says should be fine, as other students are doing the same.

The next day, Brandon tells Sally that she doesn't have to come to his show, but he's still putting it on. However, she rushes passed him in tears. She goes to talk to Lena and tells her that Monte kissed her. I knew this relationship was inappropriate. We should have let her resign when she offered.

While this is happening, Callie gets a call from Rita's daughter asking if she can get in touch with her mom as she changed her number again. Callie goes to talk to Rita (they are still upset with each other about their differing viewpoints on the foster care bill), who assures her that she's done this before. She threatens to harm herself unless Rita gives her money. Which she's done repeatedly in the past, but she assures Callie that she's not going to hurt herself. Callie ends up going over to the motel she's staying at and Chloe asks Callie for money as well.

Later, she calls Callie again after she's taken a handful of pills, and Callie can tell immediately something's not right. She rushes over there and called 9-1-1. Turns out, she did 'try' to overdose, but both Callie and Rita seem to think it was more a cry for help than anything. (She's fine, she and Rita are going to start going to therapy). This causes Rita and Callie to make up. They still disagree, but they love each other.

Stef and Lena find out that Jesus has been drinking a lot, and Stef forces him to go to this EQ class she's being made to teach. Turns out, everyone in this class needs more emotional intelligence. But, you know who doesn't? Nick. Mariana mentioned to him at the beginning of the episode that he didn't have any, and then he went and read everything that has ever been written on the subject apparently. He also gave her a really nice, heartfelt apology for his behavior in the car. Dude, I would forgive him after that apology. Plus, he helped find the space for Brandon and Mat to put on their opera.

Oh, and Callie told Stef and Lena about her and AJ. They don't seem thrilled, but they aren't against it. So, I guess she's got that going for her. Brandon doesn't seem all that pleased either. But he's busy trying to date the bartender/surfer, so he shouldn't really be bothered by this.

Comments

I knew Monte was trouble for a while now which was pretty much confirmed when she kissed Lena who she knew was married but espeically now that we found out that she made moves on a minor which is not something that I feel vindicated about either becuase the victim is her student and a minor so their is this disturbing power imbalnace at play within that, so it's like im am happy I was proven right yet again but the situation in which that has happened is just soo sad for the student who is gonna be possibly traumatised and feel guilty about for a long time. If I was proven right under a different set of circumstances that are not based on preditory behaviour of Monte being no good I would probably feel a bit more celebratory about it but this situation is just sad. Whats even worse is depending on when this happned Sally might have felt like she couldn't say anything to anyone because Monte got her all those free resources she needed for her senior play ans felt that if she told anyone that it would affect that for her. Like I get it she wanted to exlpore her sexuality which is 100% valid but doing so by kissing your married co-worker who you have been openly flirting with and sexually assaulting a minor is not it. Dating Apps exist for a reason use them. I hope she gets arrested for this or at least faces some sort of punishment. I feel for Rita and her daughter because relationships are complicated but im just glad her daughter ended up being ok and that they are willing to get counciling inorder to work on mending their relationship. Hopefully Jesus stops his distructive behavior before he ends up seriously harming either himself or someone else. But I do think it's ridiculous that Lena and Stef won't let him play wrestling again even though he really seems to enjoy it and it does seem to help him a lot. Btw yes the community garden conversation about Monte's innapropiate relationship with Sally was last episode where Lena correctly pointed out how deeply innapropiate Monte was being with Sally and Monte deflected by telling Lena that she let her son back into the school by skipping a whole waiting list which is such a low move to deflect from her own innapropiate actions.
