The Americans 2X9: Martial Eagle

Okay, so I complained, a lot, in the beginning of this episode as it was so fucking dark, I couldn't see anything. I made some educated guesses as to what happened based on what I could see, but I'm sure I missed stuffed. Half the time I couldn't even see who was on screen. I'm going to read the Wikipedia for what happened in that scene.

So, Wikipedia says Elizabeth assassinated the intended targets. Honestly, I had no idea she was even on screen until the end when she and Philip meet back up at the truck to leave. So it's a good I idea I checked. I had no idea that'd actually accomplished the mission. I did know that Philip ended up needing to kill a bunch of people that caught him while he was taking pictures. Afterwards, when they get out, they came across the guy whose truck they hijacked. I was pretty sure he was dead, but it was hard to tell. Wikipedia says he froze to death. Sad.

Outside of that, Stan finally gets clearance to meet with the people working on the stealth plane project. He's convinced that Russia thinks the professor is the key to the project and that's why they kidnapped him and took him home. He tells him that once the KGB realizes he doesn't have the info they want, they'll be back to come after them. He meets with them to talk about how the KGB will try to use their weaknesses against them. One of the guys is the agent (?) who used to work for Emmett and is now helping out Philip. Either way, Stan doesn't look convinced when he claims he'd never betray his country. And rightfully so.

Speaking of Stan, he figured out that the meeting of DoD and the companies vying for the stealth project happened on the same day Emmett and Leanne were killed. (Not that he knows who Emmett and Leanna were, but he's suspicious). He asks Martha to bring him all the evidence from the murders, but it doesn't seem like he's found anything useful.

Gaad, who is sure he's going to be fired after he testifies (although I'm still not sure what he did), starts packing up his office. He goes to a diner to meet up with Arkady (I had to look up his name) and tells him that if anything bad happens to him, he'll go to the press with what he knows about the KGB. (Why not just go to the press now? Aren't we, like, mortal enemies?) Arkady seems bored by all this and basically just leaves.

Seemingly to appease Paige, we've all decided to go to church. During the service, Paige looks thrilled; he parents, less so. After mass, Paige introduces her parents to the pastor, where they gush about how great Paige is. They all tell Elizabeth and Philip that Paige has donated $600 to the church. Her parents are pissed. But Philip especially. He's screaming and ripping up the bible. Later, Elizabeth wakes her up in the middle of the night to do chores. When Paige protests, she tells her if she wants to act like an adult, you have to start doing adult things.

Also, I really thought Philip was going to do something much worse to the pastor than simply tell him to stay away from Paige. Especially with the black gloves he donned beforehand. I definitely wished for violence, was disappointed when I didn't get it, and then felt awful for wanting it in the first place. I'm glad this is TV and not real life.
