The Vampire Diaries 5X7: Death and the Maiden

Dude, again. I really hope this actress got paid 3 times for this episode. And the dude who plays Stefan is doing well too. I LOVED the opening of this episode.

Okay, so Silas has decided to go back on his deal to bring Bonnie back. All he wants to do is kill Amara so they can go be together in peace on the other side. So, they come up with a plan to swap Amara and Bonnie as the anchor. Since the anchor has a spot in both sides, if Bonnie is the anchor she can be both alive and dead, which is better than being all dead, I guess.

She needs the blood of all three doppelgängers to make the spell work though. So, Caroline is tasked with fetching Katherine (who is busy being accosted by her daughter). Katherine has no interest in helping, but agrees as long as Tessa helps her with her aging issue. Tessa agrees to do so as soon as the ritual is over, so Katherine decides to help.

While the spell is going on, Silas shows up and cuts the power to the house. He's desperate to stop the spell because he wants Amara dead. During the chaos, Stefan grabs Amara and flees with her (he's hell bent on killing Silas after the torture he put him through). He then calls Silas and tells him that he's got Amara and if he doesn't show up, he'll take her away and keep her alive forever.

Silas does show up. And when he gets there, Amara begs him to kill her. He wants to, but it's proving to be more difficult than intended as he loves her. Before he can, Stefan turns up and they start fighting. Eventually, Stefan manages to stab and kill him (This seemed pretty easy. Especially after Elena telling him earlier in the episode how difficult it would be to kill him). As soon as that happens, Amara stabs herself.

However, Damon shows up and is trying to keep her alive long enough for Tessa to finish the spell. If she dies, there will be now way to make Bonnie the anchor. And just as it seems they've run out of time (Bonnie has shown up to Jeremy to say their goodbyes), Amara dies, but the spell is complete. Jeremy and Bonnie are able to touch. And moments later, Elena and Caroline can see Bonnie. All seems good. Until, of course, it's not.

Katherine approaches Tessa asking her to cure her now that they task is finished. But, it turns out, Tessa has decided to kill herself so she can go to the other side and be with Silas. (I have no idea how that is going to work. Aren't he and Amara already happily ever after over there?) Katherine is pissed, but there's not a whole lot she can do.

Tessa shows up to Bonnie, who is now the anchor, to pass to the other side. And she informs her that whenever a supernatural creature dies and has to pass to the other side, she'll be feeling it. And it will be incredibly painful. As she passes through, we seeing Bonnie screaming and doubled over in pain. Because nothing can ever be easy for us.

And we end with Stefan burying Silas. For whatever reason, he's convinced that by doing this, all the pain and anguish that Silas has caused will vanish when he's underground. Unfortunately, that's not how trauma works. And he seems very surprised to find that even with Silas dead and buried (literally) Stefan's pain is still there.
