So, Lilly admits to being Chloe's mother. But she's so ashamed of having left the baby that she doesn't want to deal with it. Doc tried to talk to her about it, but she wouldn't open the door. After talking about it with Mel, they think she probably has postpartum depression. However, the immediate issue is that CPS is on their way and one Lilly is in the system, it's going to be difficult to get her back if Lilly changes her mind once her brain chemistry is back online.
Mel suggests placing her with one of her daughter's, but Doc claims she doesn't want to involve the rest of the family. Hope tries to convince her to the keep the baby, but she refuses. Mel decides to try again and tells Lilly her own story. That she had a stillborn baby a few years ago, and went through PPD herself. She tells Lilly that she's certified to foster the baby and will do so if that's alright with Lilly. Lilly asks for some time to think about it.
Not long after, the case worker finally shows up. Mel, Doc, Hope, and Jack are waiting around to see the end result. Eventually, they are called into the room and Lilly tells them that she's called her daughter and asked her to take custody of the baby for now. The daughter agreed and all seems to be well on that front for now.
During all this, Doc and Hope are still fighting (What is there relationship to each other? I thought maybe they were brother and sister, but they she claims he acted this way since she first met him and that would be an odd way to phrase that) about what to do with Mel. Hope is insistent that he rehire her. Doc is upset that she doesn't respect his authority, the way he runs things, or the town. He eventually agrees to go back to the trial basis (Does she even want to work for him, though? Did they remember she quit before he fired her?) Anyway, at the end of the episode when Doc drops Hope off (this is why I don't think they are married) Hope starts to collapse. No idea what's going on, but thankfully, the only doctor in town is right here.
Jack and Mel discuss the events of the episode at the bar. He tries to convince her to stay. (He also asks about her wedding ring, but she claims she isn't ready to talk about it yet). Then, as they are sharing a moment, his girlfriend (who he's been with for two years?!?) shows up. Mel is understandably shocked. He's been treating Mel like he's single and wants to date her. Hell, he's rebuilding a house for her (not that she knows it). But it seems pretty obvious girlfriend wants this to be a more serious relationship than Jack does.
I truly can't decide if Elijah is dead or not. I was utterly convinced last episode. But now, after her bout with depression and the two of them wallowing in grief over a stillborn baby, maybe the marriage just fell apart. But that would make it odd that she's still wearing the ring. Interesting. Don't tell me, but it's fun to speculate.
