Okay so, I watched this and following episode back to back (Which I typically do, but it's later in the day than I typically do this, so I'm afraid I might mix them up. This might be on the shorter side).
Brandon's performance at Idyllwild is this episode. The family (plus Jenna and Monte are all headed over to watch). Lena is not thrilled with the prospect of being stuck in a cabin with Monte all weekend, but it turns out, they get along great. When Monte shows up, things seem a little spoiled.
Meanwhile, before heading over, Callie is grilling Carmen about what happened with Rita, certain that Rita wouldn't hit it. Turns out, Carmen is on drugs (she stole Brooke's drugs) and can't rat out Brooke for hitting her or Brooke will tell she's on them and Carmen will be banned from getting into the military. She refuses to tell the truth. So Callie tells her she call Stef over and have her drug tested right now. Carmen counters by telling her she'll tell the social worker about her and Brandon's relationship.
Callie ended up recording that conversation, so she's got proof that Rita is innocent. But, it also implements herself in the relationship with Brandon. She decides Rita's innocence is more important than her getting adopted, so she sends the voice message over.
The morning of the performance, we find out that Jenna and Monte broke up. Later, we find out it was because Monte loved someone else (Any guesses? She hasn't been subtle about it). Brandon performs his composition (his pianist claimed he couldn't do it justice) with a looping machine and wins the big prize.
Stef and Lena head home (but separately). When Lena arrives, Stef confronts her about her relationship with Monte. Jenna told her that they'd kissed and Monte was in love with her. The two argue about it with Stef pissed that Lena is always talking about her keeping things to herself and she didn't tell her about this. Lena claims she didn't tell her because it meant nothing and she didn't want to upset her.
Back at the Idyllwild party, Mat apologizes to Mariana. He thinking she broke up with him because he extended the tour and she thinks he cares more about that than her. He assures her he does not. He canceled the rest of the tour to spend the rest of the summer with her. He wants to have sex. He told her he wanted to wait because he's a virgin too and wanted it ot be special for both of them. So Mariana tells him the truth. She's no longer a virgin. And it happened while they were still together.
Once the party has broken up, Callie and Brandon are alone together. She tells him about what happened with Carmen and that there is no chance they'll allow her to be adopted now, since she had that relationship with him. After initially deciding it's a better decision to go to bed alone, Brandon ends up in Callie's room and they have sex. (Or something really, really close to sex).
And I have no idea how I feel. Seriously. I spend way to long trying to figure it out and I never actually do.
