The Woman Who Tried to Sell Human Toes Regurgitated By Dogs {PATRON-EXCLUSIVE VIDEO}

🚨 EXPERIMENT ALERT 🚨

As I alluded to in my last post: ABA- Always Be Alluding–we here at Haus Caitlin are experimenting with new styles of content that will make us less dependent on YouTube.

One plan is to develop a more podcast-like style to telling certain stories. Maybe even launch a podcast! Still using well-researched storytelling, but with more casual Caitlin, more personal stories, less travel and high production value. Having a podcast (perhaps with a video component like above) would also allow a completely different distribution system than YouTube, and the content would be plopped right in your feed when it's released (which YouTube does not always do.)

BUT- let's be honest. This type of presenting is a whole new skill set for me! Just like I'm in my LEARN HOW TO WRITE A DEEPLY RESEARCHED NONFICTION BOOK ON THE TITANIC-era, I am also in my LEARN HOW TO BE MYSELF AND DELIVER INFO AND NOT SOUND OVERLY REHEARSED ON CAMERA-era.

And so, the plan is to practice and work this out here with Patrons over the summer before any new project goes public. I want your feedback! Really really. You can be harsh, you can be honest. (I mean...honest about this, don't go insulting my grandmother or something.)

Here's what I think:

1- I'm way too stiff. I haven't developed a natural storytelling flow without the crutch of developing a written script.

2- This was supposed to be more casual and yet I didn't tell a single personal story or really have much of a personal reaction to anything! There were a few times, but I need to give myself a little more freedom.

3- Needs a little more energy. I was nervous for the monologue that is a podcast, I think.

Let me know what you think, and if you are kind yet wise, gentle yet bold– NEW MAIN CHANNEL video later this week.

xx

I paid for the membership, but apparently, even though I can sign in to You Tube like normal and see non-paid videos, on THIS CHANNEL I am unable to play the videos because You Tube wants a "sign in" but gives no method to do so. I am very frustrated. I love your videos and want to support you, but am having great difficulty in getting the videos to play. I don't have the same issue with other Patreon content I watch, so not sure what's happening.

You are one of my favorite storytellers, and I don't perceive you as stiff at all. I do think you could add more personal thoughts to the story, but I don't know if it's necessary. It's pretty easy to guage the kind of person you are just by listening to the things that matter to you.

Loved this episode, and I am excited for any experiments with format you have in mind. Please never hold back because of worrying that trying something new would put people off. Always looking forward to whatever you post!

You're reminding me that I need to warn my family about postmortem munchies - I have an anxious dog, and could picture her absolutely chomping my face off trying to wake me in the unforseen event of my untimely demise at home.

I love this format and don’t feel that it loses anything from your on location videos (although the one at Disneyland is iconic 😁). This is the only one of your videos in 5ish years I did have to turn off. Just thinking about a devoted dog so confused and upset at the loss of its person made me start crying too much to finish the video. They love us so much and so often do not get credit for their emotions. Animals rarely get the credit they deserve for their sentience.

I'm reminded of a kerfuffle on Tumblr some years back about a woman reaching out to the "vulture culture" (organic remains preservation?) community to see if anyone could use her amputated toe in a jewelry piece. Big fuss over whether the "weirdos who collected dead things" should be given human remains. Difference being, it was HER toe, and she gave consent to make something artistic with it FOR HER USE. This? Lady just selling human pieces she found? Not cool. Hopefully those animal parts didn't have human caretakers who were similarly uninformed. Hope the dogs have recovered and are doing well.

Honestly, I enjoyed it as much as your scripted videos. You are a great storyteller and you have a feel for the rhythm of oral storytelling with the right pauses, asides, and minor diversions that tie back into the story. I don't think it needed more personal stories in it. That would have been too much of a digression from the main story, IMHO. There were plenty of asides and your take / opinion were very clear - especially your thoughts on people like this woman who are just "dum-dums" selling body parts. I also don't think you really needed more energy either. I'm writing this at midnight and exhausted from a lot of work, and it had plenty of energy to keep my ADHD brain paying attention. :)

Ok, you probably won't like this because it's not critical enough but; 1. I think your style is fine...i like it. Sometimes we tend to be over critical of ourselves because we become used to hearing ourselves perform...it's easy to get "tired and bored with yourself" while everyone else thinks you're doing swimmingly. 2. See 1. 3. Coffee.

Have you looked into Nebula? I think you would be great there. I'm a subscriber there and I always check there before looking for my favorite creators on youtube.

The skunk streak immediately makes me think of Susan Death’s granddaughter in the disc world novels. A perfect role model for you.
