The Mentalist 2X1: Redemptions
Added 2025-05-27 01:48:56 +0000 UTCSo, we're all kicked off the Red John case. And we're all pissed, but, obviously, no one as much as Jane. Once he realizes he can't argue his way back onto the case, he starts packing up his stuff claiming he has no more reason to stay.
However, he does grace the team with his presence for one last case, as he thinks it would mean to leave them in the lurch. (Plus, he doesn't think they can do their jobs without him. 100% rude, but kinda also 100% correct). He tells Lisbon as much and they get into a fight about it. Eventually, he apologizes and asks if he can come back stating that he's got nothing else to do without working for CBI.
Lisbon allows him to stay but says he has to be on his best behavior. No tricks, no jokes, no crazy outside the box thinking. If they don't close a case, at least they won't close it professionally. Jane agrees, but immediately starts in on his own plan.
They find a young woman who is dead in an apartment, and know pretty much nothing about her. Jane, after seeing a picture on the wall, has Grace google some very specific phrasing and they figure out who she is. A woman who has stolen a million dollars from her employer and then disappeared.
As they leave, Jane asks Lisbon to drive around looking for houses for sale. She knows it's one of his crazy schemes and leaves him there. Thankfully, Cho pulls up and takes him. As soon as he finds a house, he leaves a note from the former owner to have the dead girl call him. He won't share his plan with Cho, and they head out to meet with the dead girl's family.
Turns out, she wasn't a great mom and her daughter kind of hates her. Also, he son had cancer, but was cured. It was miraculous and none of the doctors expected it. But he's a little weak now. Okay, it seems, but weak.
Jane runs around asking everyone if they know the former home owner, but no one seems to know anything. (And it's starting to get on Lisbon's nerves).
Later, Jane and Cho hang out in the house that's for sale and just wait to see who shows up (although, Jane claims he already knew). And it's the dead girl's boss. Long story short, she stole her own money for a gambling addiction and got her employer to agree to take the fall for her in exchange for paying for her son's cancer treatment. But, when he got better, the mom didn't want to stay hidden anymore, so the employer killed her.
Meanwhile, some guy named Bosco has taken over the Red John case. Jane tries to be cool with him and see if he'd be willing to share info, but this bullshit douchebag treats Jane like he's got head lice. I fucking hate this asshole. Telling him he's nothing but a clown and a joke. He refuses to talk to Jane.
So, at the end of the episode, Jane calls someone pretending to be Bosco saying he thinks his passwords have been compromised and needs to change them. I get the point, but as soon as Bosco realizes he doesn't have access, he's just going to call himself. I don't know how this get Jane access for more than a couple of hours. But many that's all he needs?

I'm not usually one that likes when shows tell me things and don't show me, but when the show vaguely hints that Lisbon cares about Jane despite her constant obvious annoyance of him, it's believable to me. It's Jane. How can you not be charmed? He bought her a pony, lol.😆 Sure he's annoying at times, but his ridiculousness, among many other attributes, is so endearing. 🥰 At this point Jane has worked with CBI for about 3 years. So, in this case I find it more as information and insight into Lisbon and her relationship with Jane rather being told something. It makes sense given her character. She's tough as nails and hard to read and apparently not as immune to Jane as she appears. For me, Rigsby and Van Pelt is more of the tell not show I don't really like. It's kinda shoehorned and pointless, but it's not the focus, so I don't care that much.

2025-05-28 09:32:06 +0000 UTCI don't disagree, but I don't think (at least at this point) that Jane knows how to not think outside the box without leaving a giant mess to clean up. He seems more like a 'the ends justify the means' and 'it's better to ask for forgiveness than permission.' These both get results, but I don't know that that's what she wants. (And by her, I mostly mean her boss. It seems like she's mostly annoyed she has to justify him to her higher ups. She knows he's worth it, but it's a pain in the ass to explain. Lol.) Ooh, the lying is a good point. He keeps telling them, it's better if it's a show at the end. Which is fun for the us, the audience, but probably a pain in the ass for Lisbon. She could mitigate so much bullshit if he just gave her a head's up. Ha.

2025-05-28 00:37:27 +0000 UTCLisbon's issue with Jane isn't about him thinking outside of the box, but him doing it in a way that creates a huge mess that always falls back on her. And lying about it. If he told her what was up she could at least minimize the damage. I mean Jane is going to be Jane, but show her consideration. She ALWAYS has his back despite his antics. I love Jane, but I get her frustrations.
