The Mentalist 1X20: Red Sauce

I'm sorry, Jane bought a fucking pony?! And I could not stop laughing about it. It was perfectly insane. I love it so much.

Okay, so it's Lisbon's birthday and Jane is able to guess what everyone bought her before she opened it, because of course he can. He doesn't have a gift for her, but insists it's on the way. She doesn't seem to believe him, but also doesn't really seem to care.

Then, they get a call to go see a dead guy. Jane pretty much immediately figures out that he works at an arcade a couple of towns over. So, Jane and Rigsby head over there and talk to his boss, who isn't really that helpful. And then a bunch of kids who were there, who actually were. They tell Jane that he would sell them drugs, and loan them money. He calls Lisbon to tell her he thinks the dead guy was in witness protection.

However, as he's calling her, she was about to call 9-1-1 because when they showed up to talk to the widow, she pulled a shotgun on them, and refuses to believe they are actual police. And just then, US Marshalls burst in the lady is comfortable to put the gun down.

Lisbon tells them that the dude is dead, and the Marshalls don't really seem that concerned. The wife reported him missing, like, 3 days ago, but I guess he does this a lot so they didn't even bother really looking for him. But, we find out that he testified against the mob, so a lot of people want him dead. Jane heads over to talk to the mob boss, who claims he didn't kill him, but he's super happy with whoever did. Jane promises to call him when they find the killer.

Once he has his phone number, he starts getting people to call and annoy him, which comes in handy later when he needs him to be pissed off and angry.

The Marshalls are looking suspect, so Lisbon starts investigating and we eventually find out that one of them was having an affair with the dead guy. She ended up trying to kill herself by ODing when she found out he was dead. Either way, it turns out, the widow knew about the affair and was sick of him cheating on her, so she shot him in the head.

Jane, somehow has figured that out and sets up a whole scenario where he convinces her to confess, but telling her that mob guy is pissed at her and gonna kill her. So, she can either confess and go to jail, or get whacked. Patrick gets mob guy on the phone and he's pissed, so he passes the phone to her and she can hear him screaming about how his gonna kill her. (He's really talking about Jane, but she doesn't know that). Then, Rigsby walks up to the door looking like a mobster in a Tony Soprano track suit. She freaks out and confesses. Case closed.

And back at the office, Lisbon's gift from Jane has arrived. And it's a god damn pony. It was glorious.
