Okay, this episode was so much better than the previous one. Also, I feel stupid for sort of just thinking that both Jude and Connor were fine after getting shot at. I didn't even think about them having much trauma from it. I'm an idiot.
So A.J. is staying in Jesus' bed until we can get Mike's foster license sorted out. Both Callie and Brandon are wary of him, but he's putting up a good front with the parents. He's getting along very well with with Mike and it's really stressing Brandon out. He's afraid that A.J. is going to take advantage of him.
But either way, Mike is picking him up from school at the end of the day. And, by day two, he's already taken off. Thankfully, Callie seems to know where he went, so the two of them head to this park and try to find him. Callie does pretty quickly and tells him that he's got to trust someone. It's the only way things are ever going to get better. Then Mike shows up and he tosses A.J. a phone that his brother can use to contact him with. (You know, after A.J. spray painted the number on the side of a water tower).
When they get back to the house, A.J. is feeling better about things and heads back into Brandon's bedroom to return the baseball he stole. (Oh yeah, he stole the baseball earlier). But Brandon walks in just as he's putting it back. And it 100% looks suspicious.
Lena's boss is now trying to date women, and Stef and her friend run into her on a date at a girl's night out. The friend is very taken with her and begs Stef and Lena to try to set them up. Lena is very reluctant, by they agree to have the two of them over for dinner the next night. This woman 100,000% wants to be with Lena. And now Lena is stuck in this position of having to decide if she should tell Stef that she kissed her a few weeks ago. Back when she wasn't into women, it didn't seem like a big deal. But now, not so much.
Both Connor and Jude are dealing with the aftermath of being shot at. Connor is playing a lot of shooting video games, and Jude talks to Stef about his woes. Stef ends up arranging to take the two of them to the shooting range, so they can see if it helps. Jude ends up not wanting to shoot at all. And Connor, who is so excited to to it, takes one shot, has a flashback, and feels in tears. Jude goes out to comfort him, and shortly after Stef follows and tells the two of them this is normal behavior when getting shot at.
Mariana starting working at her grandparent's bakery, which is stupid because they probably already can't afford to pay the people they have. They have no customers. Mariana and her cousin come up with an idea for a churro donut, but they get shot down. Eventually, grandpa relents and they get to make the donut. Oh, and Mariana is sort of texted with Wyatt. Are they going to try to make this a thing?
Also, Callie has figured out what to do for her independent study. After watching A.J. struggle with finding his brother, she decides to create a app that connects foster kids. She's pitching it as a virtual drop in center. Thankfully Mariana is a coding genius. Not that Callie asked her, but she'll be doing most of the work, it seems like.
