The Fosters 3X2: Father's Day

Eh, I didn't love this episode. I'm not really sure why.

So, Stef and Lena are hosting Mike, Connor's dad, and Donald for Father's Day at the house. Things are going mostly fine. Donald is trying to keep answers about him vague so he doesn't end up having to tell people that he was in jail (mostly for Jude's sake, not so much his).

Unfortunately, Connor's dad continues to be Connor's dad. He mentions to Lena that he read an article that claims it's sometimes better for kids to not come out publicly until they are a little older. Apparently it will keep them from being bullied in school. Lena tells him that ship has sailed, but not to worry as Anchor Beach has a strict no bullying policy. And dad loses his damn mind.

He runs outside and confronts Connor about the fact that the whole school knows he gay. Connor doesn't really know what to say (who would?) and sort of stutters that he was outed. Then he turns to Jude and asks if he was the one who outed him. It's not a fun scene to watch. Connor's dad does such a good job of playing an asshole. Donald tries to defuse the situation, and Connor's dad is all, 'What? You want your kid to get bullied?' And Donald tells him he's proud of who his son is and just wants him to be himself. Oh, and you can get bullied at home just as much as in school. Thank you, Donald. Fuck Connor's dad. Seriously. Every time I think he might make a tiny bit of progress, he drags himself back down again.

Meanwhile, Callie is over with Robert's family having Father's Day on his yacht. Things are mostly going okay, but the parents are really paying extra attention to Sophia after her hospital stay and it's driving her crazy. (I get both sides, though. If my kid tried to kill themself, I'd be all over them like a hawk. But, if I'm the kid, I'm sure that would make me insane. I'm trying to get better and healthy and this isn't helping).

Eventually, Sophia tells Callie that she is sure her parents are getting ready to put her back in the hospital. They are whispering behind her back and she wants Callie to talk to them for her. Jill overhears this and we find out the truth. That the two of them are separating. And it has nothing to do with Sophia at all.

And Brandon is losing his shit over at school. And I don't blame him. If I were him, I'd make sure that Kat had some kind of mysterious accident. His mom is a cop. She could help him cover it up. (She wouldn't, but she probably could). I have no idea if his piece was actually derivative, but it sounded nice enough to me. 🤷‍♀️

Oh, and Mike is going to foster A.J. But, since he doesn't have a foster license yet, A.J. is going to stay at the Foster's until that happens. And Callie does not look happy about it. Which, makes sense, he did get her fired. But also, she and Sophia talked about how cute he was, so maybe there is some of that mixed in there as well.
