We're Back! With a Tale of Murder...and a Mortician and a Corpse and...

Greetings Deathlings,

Welcome to our first video of the Fall!

If you've been keeping up, you'll know that this video is perhaps our biggest video to date.

Back in the spring, I knew that I was going to be in the Pacific Northwest this summer, so Louise and I started looking for stories that would satisfy the BIGGER, BETTER, CORPSIER direction we wanted to take our videos. We wanted a story that was sprawling, asked big questions, was not necessarily common knowledge, and was also straight up WILD in some ways.

At one point our friend, author Bess Lovejoy, a devoted Seattleite, mentioned the story of Hazzard and Butterworth. Our interest was piqued.

As we dug deeper, we both Louise and I couldn't look away. We'd found our video.

That was around May. We've been researching, writing, and planning ever since. I went to Seattle. We met up with the wonderful Gregg Olsen who is a walking, talking, charming expert on all things Olalla and Starvation Heights. And we tinkered with the script and with the edits like never before.

In essence, we love this video. And we hope you do too.

So we present to you deathlings, the beginning of something new. Thank you for your enduring support and good cheer.

Onward!

Caitlin

*A quick, but important clarification: If you clicked on this post from your email, the subject probably read, "Caitlin Doughty's new patron-only video". This is not a patron-only video; this is a video that was released to the public. When we release patron-only videos we will explicitly state in the video info and in the video post that it is a "Patron Exclusive" video. Patreon recently changed the way Patrons-only video posts (i.e. these nifty messages that are delivered to your inbox) are released via email – automatically adding that "patron-only video" line to the subject, even if that's not the case. But that's not how we (and a lot of other creators) do things. So, sorry for the confusion! I hope this cleared things up! We're working on fixing this with Patreon.

This story is always terrifying, every time I hear it. It’s frustrating to think those poor women were virtually trapped there. Thank God they had good people on the outside to fight for them.
