Hello Deathlings!
Today's video is exciting for a number of reasons:
1) It's the third video in the cannibalism trilogy we didn't set out to make but here we are!
2) This video has been a long time in the making and I can't tell you how good it feels to release a long historical video after months of ALL COVID ALL THE TIME. (OK, It's still mostly Covid, most of the time, but getting to turn my attention to a CANNIBALISM video was such a relief. File that under things I never thought I'd say.)
3) It's our long time editor Landis Blair's last video with us!!!
For those of you who don't know, Landis was the first person who really took the visual language of Ask A Mortician from "Things Caitlin Figured Out in iMovie" to the weird, wonderful world we have today. As thoughtful as he is precise, Landis' creative touch is in the DNA of Ask A Mortician. If you've ever enjoyed Bentham's Head, "mummy brown is kittens!", or the mock commercials we are so fond of putting into our videos, you're a Landis Blair fan.
As I say in the video, Landis never set out to be a video editor – he's an accomplished illustrator, artist, and author in his own right. If you haven't already, check out his website, Etsy shop, or maybe even your local comic book convention (in the After Times that is) for a free range Landis sighting.
So today, as you watch the video and CHEW ON this fascinating and yes, inspiring story, take note of Landis' handiwork and raise a glass. To Landis!

[Goofy photo of Landis Blair, frozen from a Zoom call. Raising a cocktail. He's wearing a sweater, bow tie, dark rimmed round-framed glasses. Typical Landis.]
Take care of yourselves deathlings!
Caitlin
PS: Don't worry, we have new members of Team Death Video already hard at work editing our next videos. We will not be returning to the days of Caitlin googling "How to crossfade in iMovie".
*A quick, but important clarification: If you clicked on this post from your email, the subject probably read, "Caitlin Doughty's new patron-only video". This is not a patron-only video; this is a video that was released to the public. When we release patron-only videos we will explicitly state in the video info and in the video post that it is a "Patron Exclusive" video. Patreon recently changed the way Patrons-only video posts (i.e. these nifty messages that are delivered to your inbox) are released via email – automatically adding that "patron-only video" line to the subject, even if that's not the case. But that's not how we (and a lot of other creators) do things. So, sorry for the confusion! I hope this cleared things up! We're working on fixing this with Patreon.
