Greetings Deathlings!
If I had a dollar for every time someone asked me to critique a corpse they'd seen in a movie or their favorite Netflix show, I would never have to monetize another video. So after almost a decade of growing up before your very eyes (from a 20-something to a 30-something) on YouTube, I'm finally doing the corpse reaction video you've always dreamed of.
OK, I admit I'm leaning into my curmudgeonly nature for some effect. It was fun. I was very impressed by Stand By Me's corpse offering; I was delightfully unimpressed by Law & Order: SVU's corpse. But real talk: I haven't watched 431 episodes of SVU for the corpse realism (I looked it up, there are 434 episodes total). I watch it because Detectives Benson and Tutuola are my friends and have seen me through the best of times, the worst of times, and the eat-an-entire-pizza-in-your-pajamas of times.
I kid. (?)
But this video is more than Benson and (Weekend at) Bernie's. I'm delighted to introduce you to Jim Rassman. The man inching us closer to the dream of being eaten by animals in death.
I can't tell you how much of a delight it was to meet Jim at his beautiful workshop in Cape Cod. Here is a man who is devoted the environment, stewardship, and helping people fulfill their death plans. Can't say enough great things about Jim, I do hope you'll follow his work.
And [AIR HORN!] I FINALLY get to unveil a project I've been working on for some time now with death doula Alua Arthur (check out the video I did with her a couple years ago --> here).
We bring you MORTAL. This is a course that Alua and I have created to help you learn more about your relationship with death and mortality. SPOILER: we're all going to die. But fear of death doesn't need to stop you from being present in your life. Our goal with this course is to give you tools to examine and reduce your death fears when they arise.
Y'all, this video is chock full 'o' deathy goodness. I hope you enjoy.
Happy New Year! Onward!
Caitlin
*A quick, but important clarification: If you clicked on this post from your email, the subject probably read, "Caitlin Doughty's new patron-only video". This is not a patron-only video; this is a video that was released to the public. When we release patron-only videos we will explicitly state in the video info and in the video post that it is a "Patron Exclusive" video. Patreon recently changed the way Patrons-only video posts (i.e. these nifty messages that are delivered to your inbox) are released via email – automatically adding that "patron-only video" line to the subject, even if that's not the case. But that's not how we (and a lot of other creators) do things. So, sorry for the confusion! I hope this cleared things up! We're working on fixing this with Patreon.
