The Mentalist 1X14: Crimson Cassanova

You guys. This episode was so funny to me. I know it probably shouldn't be considering this is a show about murder, but I laughed so much.

So, surprise, we've got a dead body at a spa. And it's the wife of a rich guy who was having an affair, so he's trying to keep it quiet. The guy who was in bed with her when she was shot (and fled immediately after) is questioned and apparently, he's a pick up artists. Although, why anyone would ever want to go home with him is beyond me, but plenty of girls do, as we come to find out.

Patrick pretty much immediately rules Cassanova out as a suspect, but he's the best lead we've got so we keep talking to him. And his many, many conquests. And the husband is pretty much thrilled. He's been wanted to divorce her for years, but it would have cost him too much money. However, when he found out she was cheating, it was able to get away with paying her a lot less. And now that she's dead, he doesn't have to pay anything. That's some pretty good motive right now. But he's not our guy either.

But, Jane does seem to know who it was, so we set a trap. We send in Cho to act as a womanizer who gets rejected. He strikes up a conversation with a woman at the bar (who happens to be pick up artists ex that he's still in love with, this is not a coincidence) and they decide to flaunt their happiness at him while heading up to his room.

The team all has video and audio of this and are watching. Once they get to the room, Cho immediately drops the act and the poor girls is shocked. She actually thought they had a connection. I'm sad for her.

But, either way, we find out it's the spa manager, who is also in love with pick up artist's ex. He meant to kill him in bed that night, not the woman. And since you can't get in to the room without a key, Patrick knew it was someone on staff and he realized that he was in love with the ex. Ta da!

At this point I think it's been about 3 or 4 yrs since his wife and daughter were killed.
