Ugh. I hate that E.J. and Gina have broken up. But, to be fair, they had a lot more going for them before they got together. I mean, like Gina said, they were barely together, but I'm still sad for them.
So, we've got prom. And Gina is sort of desperate to spend some time with E.J. during it. He assures her they will and promises the last dance of the night to her. However, the only time she (or anyone else) sees him, is when he's running around trying to get people to remember their lines for the show (which is tomorrow). She's disappointed, but he's too distracted to notice. I'm sad for them. There is nothing malicious here, it's just two people who are in different places. It's similar to the Ricky and Nini break up. Nothing happened. No one was wronged. They just sort of grew apart and wanted different things.
Once the dance is over, Gina finds him in the back. She's very kind and sweet about it, but informs him that the dance is over and he didn't give her the last dance of the night. He immediately tries to go and get the DJ to play another song, but she stops him. She says that she's lived her whole life in the realm of 'maybe' and she's ready for something permanent and right now, E.J. can't give that to her and she breaks up with him. When I did the reaction, I was a little harsh to Gina about needed something permanent. She's 15 (or maybe 16). You do not need to be building a future with someone at that age. But now, I want to take some of that back. I think this was more about the fact that she and her mom moved around constantly, not about wanting to settle down and get married. Sorry Gina, I think I jumped the gun on that one.
We've also got some visitors in this episode. Seb shows up (without a cow which is a little disappointing) and Carlos is thrilled. Also, Jet arranged for Madison to come and hash things out with Maddox. They spend a lot of time chatting and it seems like they might end up getting back together. But, it also seems like Maddox has eyes for Ashlyn (I think she's a better match for her than Val).
Speaking of Ashlyn, there's a really sweet moment when Carlos gives her a rainbow flag pin and welcomes her to the community. She seems pretty comfortable in these feelings she's got for Val, but she doesn't mention Red. Has she spoken to him? Did they break up? I assume he'll be coming to the show next episode, so maybe they'll talk it out then.
And Ricky tries to talk to Gina about his confession being on the reality show, but he chickens out. Several times. Especially after he finds out that she and E.J. broke up.
