I really don't know what we're supposed to take from the end of this episode. Somehow, the fact that the guard drinks coffee religiously is supposed to help us, but I have no idea how or why.
So Michael and Whistler have to break out tomorrow (which is so not enough time). And to make it even worse, Michael has decided it needs to be in the middle of the afternoon, as opposed to the middle of the night. Apparently, in the afternoon, there are only two guards he needs to worry about. At night there are random patrolling Jeeps to contend with, in addition to guards.
This means that Michael and Whistler each have to observe the guards to see when they can escape. Whistler pretty quickly gets a beat on his guy. Due to sun glare, he doesn't look over in the direction of Michael's cell for something like 6 minutes. But, Michael's guy is much harder to read. Short of liking to listen to sports, and occasionally glancing at his radio to nudge the antenna, he don't have much to go on. He's continuing to observe when the guard starts shooting at him.
The prison is all up in arms, as the guards are coming in. Everyone rushes out to the yard and kneels with their hands behind their heads. The guards ask who occupies Michael's cell, as he saw a scope coming from it. No one answers so they grab a random guy and start beating him. Michael speaks up and says it's his cell, but he wasn't watching the guard. He pulls a gun on him and gives him 5 seconds to answer. But, thankfully, Whistler jumps in and claims it was him. He was birdwatching. He pulls out the book in his pocket as proof.
They seem to believe him and head out. However, before they left, they chained up Michael's cell and everything they need for the escape is in there. Plus, we still don't know what to do about antenna guard. But then, Mahone shows up (who's been partaking in T Bag's heroin still) and claims the fact that the guard is addicted to his coffee is the answer they need. No idea how it's helps, but they are all sure it does.
Meanwhile, Lincoln and Whistler's girlfriend plan for what to do when the duo manages to escape. They end up burying a cooler (with something in it that we don't get to see) on the beach, and then walking along it to get to the prison. So, at least we have figured out how to get near it, I guess.
I don't know. I understand that this is the point, but it's so sloppily done right now, that I don't even know what to say about it. Last time, Michael had years to plan the escape. Now he's got a week. That is just so not enough time. And it's not like he's getting any lucky breaks.
