It Was Rats!

Hello Deathlings!

It's a video about the plague!

IN SAN FRANCISCO!

It sounds weird (especially right now) to be like, "We had so much fun making this plague video!" but we did! Maybe Team Death Video is getting a little slap happy?

It started back in July when producer Louise was like, "You know what I can't stop reading about? All the  wacky and sometimes terrible things that happened on the west coast in the 1800s. Racism, railroads, THE PLAGUE – hey we should do a San Francisco plague video..."

Sounded good. So we put it on the list and moved on.

A few weeks later, at another video meeting, Louise was like, "A plague video would be great right now!" So I moved it up the list and we went forth.

Another couple weeks later Louise is still like, POKE POKE POKE, PLAGUE PLAGUE PLAGUE.

"I'm just saying...THE PLAGUE."

~ Louise "Plague Video" Hung, 2020

So finally, after a couple months of Louise hustling for the San Francisco plague like it was a TikTok star trolling for a Netflix Christmas rom-com vehicle, we relented and scheduled "the plague vid" for November. Happy holidays, Louise.

But honestly, as I worked on this with Team Death Video I can see why Louise was so into it. It's BONKERS with a capital BONKERS.

And so eerily relevant. Originally this script was, I kid you not, 25 pages long (which is a monster script for us) – there is just so much PLAGUE stuff! Like, did you know the after years of "No Plague Here!" in California it popped up in what is now downtown LA in the 1920s? That it STILL pops up from time to time?

Anyway, I hope you like this video. Or actually, maybe I hope you're chilled by how history is repeating itself right before our very eyes.

Have a happy November, deathlings, whether it involves a special day of eating mass quantities or just getting by one day at a time (while eating mass quantities if that floats your boat). Either way, take care of yourselves!

From an appropriate social distance,

Caitlin

*A quick, but important clarification: If you clicked on this post from your email, the subject probably read, "Caitlin Doughty's new patron-only video". This is not a patron-only video; this is a video that was released to the public. When we release patron-only videos we will explicitly state in the video info and in the video post that it is a "Patron Exclusive" video. Patreon recently changed the way Patrons-only video posts (i.e. these nifty messages that are delivered to your inbox) are released via email – automatically adding that "patron-only video" line to the subject, even if that's not the case. But that's not how we (and a lot of other creators) do things. So, sorry for the confusion! I hope this cleared things up! We're working on fixing this with Patreon.
