David Koresh & the Branch Davidians: Way More Than a "Mad Man in Waco"

Greetings Deathlings,

And welcome to another video!

Y'all...when my team and I started this video, I had NO IDEA how complicated the Waco siege was. (And that David Koresh had a rock 'n' roll band with a song called "Man Man in Waco" that will get stuck in your head for days and days and...) My "stuck in the 90s brain" thought Waco was just the case of a "cult" going off the rails and needing government intervention.

WOW. I didn't realize how much of an oversimplification that is.

While there is a lot of violence and abhorrent behavior connected to David Koresh and the Waco siege, it's  easy to forget that aside from the monstrous figure of Koresh, this is a story about VICTIMS. Victims who loved their family, their children, and their community. Sadly, reading about the fear that many of those innocents endured is what really highlighted the humanity in this story for me.

We talk a lot about events that were SO MUCH WORSE than I thought, but this...this was so much more PAINFUL than I expected it to be. Waco was shocking and cautionary, but it is also heartbreaking.

I hope our look into what the dead can tell us about Waco helps you to look at this tragedy with fresh eyes.

This is our last video of the month, but don't fret, we have two brand new videos just DYING to stream straight to your eyeballs in August!

So stay tuned and stay safe out there deathlings!

From an appropriate social distance,

Caitlin

*A quick, but important clarification: If you clicked on this post from your email, the subject probably read, "Caitlin Doughty's new patron-only video". This is not a patron-only video; this is a video that was released to the public. When we release patron-only videos we will explicitly state in the video info and in the video post that it is a "Patron Exclusive" video. Patreon recently changed the way Patrons-only video posts (i.e. these nifty messages that are delivered to your inbox) are released via email – automatically adding that "patron-only video" line to the subject, even if that's not the case. But that's not how we (and a lot of other creators) do things. So, sorry for the confusion! I hope this cleared things up! We're working on fixing this with Patreon.

I was familiar with this cult but the video was great

This video was great!!! I love watching things about cults and how the leaders can get their followers to do evil things such as in the Manson family
