Okay, so, if we burned down the house with Jeremy inside it, and Bonnie does manage to bring him back, will he just be a charred body? I don't think a house fire is hot enough to cremate a person, but it will make them basically unrecognizable, right?
So, it turns out, Jeremy really is dead. He was wearing his ring, but apparently, it no longer works now that he's one of the five, and a supernatural creature. Stefan and Elena bring him back to the house, while Damon stays on the island looking for Bonnie.
At the house, Elena refuses to believe that he's not coming back. She sits vigil at his bedside, holding his hand, waiting for him to wake up. Stefan and Caroline are concerned that she's in denial (and I'm sure she is, at least a little bit), but don't know what to do to help her. She keeps saying that Bonnie will come back and fix everything.
But, Stefan and Caroline know better. They can smell the body decomposing and send for Meredith, who shows up and again, tries to explain to Elena that he's dead. But she's still not hearing it. She ends up almost attacking Meredith, but then Matt shows up and she switches to comforting him. Telling him, it will be fine, they are just waiting for Bonnie. Matt, for his part, looks horrified at this turn of events, and seems to know that Jeremy is dead.
Meanwhile, on the island Damon and Rebekah run into the hunter who tries to kill him while looking for Bonnie. While being tortured, he confesses that Katherine and a werewolf (Hayley) found out about the cure, followed them to the island, and stole it (well Katherine did, I think Hayley just gave her info).
Shortly after, Damon runs into Bonnie who tells him she can bring Jeremy back, but they need to go home. As soon as they get back, Damon tells Stefan that Bonnie is completely brainwashed by Shane and is ready to kill the 12 people to do the ritual. Everyone is horrified that she's willing to kill a dozen people to lower the veil between the living and dead. And this will only bring back the supernatural creatures, not the humans. So, Silas is a liar on top of everything else. They all forbid Bonnie of doing this ritual and she's heads home.
Elena then, after a call from April, seems to truly understand what's happening. She asks Damon to bring Jeremy's body downstairs and once he's on the couch, she starts to douse the house in lighter fluid. She's really losing it now. She lights a match and goes to drop it, but Damon grabs it before it hits the ground. He ends up using his sire bond to tell her to turn off her humanity. I don't like this. I'm very afraid that they are somehow going to find a way to break the sire bond before Damon can have her turn it back on.
But, she's calm and collected now, if a little robotic. And she still decides she wants to torch the house. Everyone she has loved and died had lived in that house, and she doesn't want it anymore. She lights the match, and the three of them leave.
Matt drops Bonnie off and she runs into Shane, who asks her if she told the others about the plan. She claims they don't think she can do (no, honey, they don't want you do it). But the two of them seem to be planning to continue with this insantity.
And back on the island, Rebekah runs into Shane who is dying on the ground. Turns out, Silas can steal people's bodies. And it looks like right now, Silas is running around Mystic Falls shaped like Shane. Good times.
