Greetings Deathlings,
Welcome to our first video of 2020!
What we bring to you today is the culmination of one mortician's dream to be the architect of her own postmortem photos.
DREAMS CAN COME TRUE, DEATHLINGS.
(If you have the right team!)
OK – saying I'm the "architect" of the Victorian tintypes we shot is giving myself more credit than is due. Jolene Lupo, the amazing photographer we worked with, basically told me what to do and it was my job to STAY STILL.
But when tasked with staying motionless for over 40 seconds – I was lying down, I don't know how our mourners, Annie and Emily did it – remaining still actually did feel like a job.
MY LIFE IS VERY HARD.
But all kidding aside, this shoot was a blast and as I've said before, I am delighted that such esteemed, talented people agreed to collaborate with us. Thank you Merchant's House Museum, thank you Penumbra Foundation, thank you Jolene!
And if getting to film a tintype session wasn't enough, Jolene casually mentioned toward the end of our shoot, "Oh, by the way, I've been creating these tin mourning pins in my spare time, what do you think?"
I was like, "I think I want them!"
So for a limited time new $20+ Patrons (either new to Patreon or those who have increased their pledge amount to $20+) will get a tin pin of my postmortem face, handcrafted by none other than Jolene herself! If you'd like to increase your pledge to $20 or more, here are some handy-dandy instructions on how to do that: https://support.patreon.com/hc/en-us/articles/360000126286-Update-my-membership-amount

The offer lasts until February 15, 2020 so get those little darlings while you can!
As I said in the video, supporting us through Patreon will help us to do a major expansion of our resources. Our goal is to offer more resources to marginalized communities, education on the choices people have about their own bodies and own dead, create databases of progressive funeral homes, create more videos, and much, much more.
2020 hit the ground running and so did we!
We have two more videos coming out this month and lots more to come this year – videos and articles and resources, OH MY!
So onward deathlings. Another year, another PIN OF MY FACE, another chance to make a difference in the death-o-sphere!

*A quick, but important clarification: If you clicked on this post from your email, the subject probably read, "Caitlin Doughty's new patron-only video". This is not a patron-only video; this is a video that was released to the public. When we release patron-only videos we will explicitly state in the video info and in the video post that it is a "Patron Exclusive" video. Patreon recently changed the way Patrons-only video posts (i.e. these nifty messages that are delivered to your inbox) are released via email – automatically adding that "patron-only video" line to the subject, even if that's not the case. But that's not how we (and a lot of other creators) do things. So, sorry for the confusion! I hope this cleared things up! We're working on fixing this with Patreon.
