Oh You Know, Just Shooting a Victorian Funeral Video in a New York City Landmark

Hello Deathlings,

We present to you a new video* today – and what a video, if I do say so myself!

Through means I'm not entirely sure of but I'm not asking too many questions, we were not only allowed into, but warmly invited to shoot a pair of videos at the Merchant's House Museum in Manhattan!

At one point, while poised over an antique coffin, waiting to shoot a scene in the House's gorgeous and LEGIT 1800s parlour, my producer Louise and I turned to each other and were like, "I can't believe we get to do this!"

It was a deathling dream come true.

And for the record, none of what you're seeing in the video is set dressing. We didn't come in with props and reproductions. Everything you see (minus my dress, a comb, the flowers) is either original to the Merchant's House (mid to late 1800s) or an antique from the time period.

The House, home to the Tredwell family until the 1930s when Gertrude Tredwell died in an upstairs bedroom, is truly a time capsule.

AND THEY LET A MORTICIAN ON THE INTERNET AND HER RAGTAG BAND DEATH NERDS SHOOT A VIDEO THERE.

If you're ever in New York City, I highly recommend going to visit the Merchant's House and paying your respects to the Tredwell's legacy.

Thank you darling deathlings  for not only supporting the creation of videos like this (and its companion video coming  in January 2020!), but also for supporting the creation of more challenging videos and content this year. Thank you for allowing us to take risks and be bold in our choices. We hope to be even bolder next year (can you believe we already have the first 5 months of videos planned???).

So from all of us at the Order and Team Death Video, we wish you a wonderful end-of-2019 (RIP) and bright 2020!

Onward!

Caitlin

*An important clarification: If you clicked on this post from your email, the subject probably read, "Caitlin Doughty's new patron-only video". This is not a patron-only video; this is a video that was released to the public. When we release patron-only videos we will explicitly state in the video info and in the video post that it is a "Patron Exclusive" video. Patreon recently changed the way Patrons-only video posts (i.e. these nifty messages that are delivered to your inbox) are released via email – automatically adding that "patron-only video" line to the subject, even if that's not the case. But that's not how we (and a lot of other creators) do things. So, sorry for the confusion! I hope this cleared things up! We're working on fixing this with Patreon.
