The Government Has No Fury Like a Band of Female Funeral Arrangers Scorned

Hello my deathy darlings,

It's a new Order article! This one's about how the fight for a good death incited a revolution.

Order contributor Rafaela Ferraz, conducts research on the collection and display of human remains. In her work Rafaela focuses on the reasons why we deem some corpses, and not others, appropriate for public display and viewing, and the ways we rationalize and ritualize our visits to see these corpses.

During the course of he research this year, Rafaela came across an incredible story in her home country of Portugal, about an impromptu band of all-female funeral arrangers who in 1846,  who went up against a tyrannical government that did not represent them, their dead, or their traditions, and in result, they kickstarted a civl war.

We hope you enjoy How Death Positive Women Kickstarted A Civil War.  History remembers this fight for the dead as "the revolution of Maria da Fonte". As Ferraz writes, "In our endless quest for a good death, we are all Maria da Fonte."

But we've got even more coming up for you this month! TOMORROW we have a new video for you – no, you haven't forgotten how to use your calendar, we are releasing a video on a WEDNESDAY.

And later this month we've got yet another video for you! One that's been quite a while in the making; one that put Team Death Video through its paces; one that was shot at a location where we kept saying to each other, "Can you believe they let us shoot here?"

So I hope you enjoy these upcoming videos as much as we enjoyed making them!

Long live the death positive revolution!

Caitlin
