Death & Disney Part 3: Feeling a Little SCATTERED at Disneyland?

Hello My Darling Deathlings!

Today we bring you the final installment of our "Death and Disney" series. We hope you still find the Magic Kingdom so enchanting the next time you're floating through the It's a Small World ride or the Pirates of the Caribbean, your hand grazes the water, and you remember CREMATED REMAINS.

Who am I kidding, you probably prefer it that way. Disney's favorite attractions with a deathling twist!

Of course, not everything Disney has created has been a hit. There have been some epic failures, questionable offerings, and plenty of beloved staples of Disneyland have taken a bite of the poison apple. Let’s take a little tour through of the graveyard of Disney attractions, shall we?

1. The Mermaid Lagoon: During the late 1950s and '60s young girls playing mermaids swam around the lagoon in Tomorrowland each summer. The attraction was popular with Disneyland visitors, but there were some reported instances in which men would jump into the lagoon to get to the mermaids.

2. Lingerie Store: Disneyland's Main Street features all kinds of charming specialty stores -- you can get everything from candy to a custom silhouette portrait, to Disney themed holiday ornaments. But in 1955, you could also browse an intimate apparel store for ladies called The Wizard of Bras, featuring a strange mechanical wizard hawking bras.

3. Halyx: In the 1980s Disney had its very own rock band that Disney die hards describe as an awkward  combination of Kiss and Star Wars. Haylx performed in Disneyland's Tomorrowland during the 80s. If you want to learn more (and who doesn't?) start with this video

4. Skull Rock: I think all deathlings will mourn the loss of this iconic Disney landmark featuring a giant rock in the shape of a skull overlooking a Peter Pan inspired lagoon with waterfalls in Fantasyland.

5. The Cinderella Castle Mystery Tour (Tokyo): Once upon a time there was an attraction with coffins, flying skeletons, and a grim reaper type character who tried to summon a skeleton army he called  “The Army of Death,” and saying things like, “The black cauldron wants more BODIES." The attraction was based on the Disney movie The Black Cauldron. Here's a great video that covers all the details of this long gone attraction.

Rest in peace, deceased Disney attractions!

Thank you for following us along on this dark ride through Disney. We have more articles for you this month, and more ON LOCATION videos for you next month!

Ashes to Disney, dust to Park.
